Is this thread really necessary? I mean, Shaka would be an A+ hire for them, but it's not like they're hiring Coach K.

I could be wrong, but this is a very, very good hire for Texas IMO.

I'd look at Rhoades at Rice. Turned around the program there in one year. Was an assistant for Smart at VCU before he was at Rice. Very energetic like Smart.

I don't think his style is great for big time conference play or recruiting but I still think it's a good hire, if that makes sense. They aren't going to unseat Kansas with this hire, but they aren't going to kill the program either

Illinois is usually a pretty good basketball school and has been more successful than Texas over history.

Money wise/facilities etc. though... Not much of a competition.
