Maybe the next NFL rule will be that after so many concussions in a specific time period, the league recommends your retirement from the game.
Make them sign a form that if they refuse retirement and continue to play you do so at your own risk. Would that hold up in court!

I hope the Seau family takes the NFL to the mat and doesn't accept their dirty hush money.

agreed

quote:

"The family want to know why this settlement seems designed for expediency for the NFL and to ensure that information doesn't come out," said Seau lawyer Steven Strauss, a partner in the firm Cooley LLP. "And the Seau family wants the truth to come out. Since this litigation started, there hasn't been one document produced, there hasn't been one deposition taken. It seems very clearly designed to nip this in the bud and not have the truth come out, and that's not acceptable to the Seau family, and it's not acceptable to Junior's legacy."

Not on one side or the other but Seau was a heavy boozer and using lots of drugs

He drove his SUV off a cliff at like 7am

Could the nfl use that against them in court?

RIP Jr.

I'm sure the family will argue CTE made him crazy.

So how do they prove that junior killed himself because the NFL was hiding concussion research?
How do we know he wouldn't have killed himself anyway with no concussions. Robin Williams hadn't had any as far as I know.

I'm not sure what is exactly being sued for here.

Yes. Goes to causation. The nfl will argue that his depression/suicide was caused by his alcohol/drug use. The family will argue he used/was depressed to deal with the brain injuries and that the NFL intentionally withheld information related to brain trauma. The jury will decide. But I don't think the NFL wants the family obtaining documents. The link says that there hasn't been one deposition taken which is why the NFL was trying to slam through this settlement.

Wouldn't the family have to prove that if he had known the dangers, instead of the NFL hiding them, he wouldn't have played?
