Elite coaches adapt

Peyton has made the playoffs 50% of the time as a coach
Peyton >>> Brady

no, his refusal to get rid of his minions and let the DC he brought in to establish a staff has cost us any ability to build a defense and coach up young talent.

Doesn't he make the draft decisions?

bullshite, Les would have Kuhn running the ball every other possession

Classic case of a coach who fell off when he started making the personnel decisions. Great coach. Piss poor GM.

You're talking about 1 position. The amount of injuries the Saints have this year might be unprecedented.

I don't think he is.

Obviously he has input on who is drafted and/or signed. Obviously he has input on which coaches come onto the staff. Obviously a lot of players brought in haven't worked out. The passing offense is always good, but the play-calling is erratic and the defense always sucks. Sucks.

Drew Brees is the only reason he still has a head coaching job in NOLA.

Are you saying he's a system player?

I agree that they benefit from each other, but Drew Brees could be successful without Sean Payton. Sean Payton would find it much more difficult to be successful without Drew Brees.

Luke mccown completed over 80% of his passes for 300+ yards AT Carolina last season. That was a stout defense and the backup moved the ball up and down the field all day long.

Loomis & Payton to an extent as far as player personnel. But Payton has relinquished play calling duties as well as personnel stuff, so at least he is recognizing the faults. We're a team in transition, but its hard to argue with his track record. Even after some bad seasons, his W/L is still well over .500

He's fielded 2 legit super bowl caliber teams. We can't do better and most other teams couldnt either.

yes, but so is just about every great QB ever. That has never been an insult to me.

Outside of Bill B, looking at this roster I don't think many other top coaches would be doing much better. Loomis has really let him down.

Maybe he doesn't have the magic in NO anymore but I'd love to have him in SF.

Loomis doesn't pick the players the Saints acquire. That's Payton

Loomis is a numbers guy. Payton tells him who he wants and Loomis makes the numbers work. It's been a combination of bad luck, bad talent evaluation, and Roger Goodell pounding his chest.
