I just think this is BS. If not the "off the board" then the 3 year deal. Dude is a pure camp body.

When is the last time they gave a UDFA a 3-year deal before rookie camp riddle me that.

He went on the air and said that he took himself off the draft board and signed a three year deal with Philly while the draft was going on.

This.

Eli wouldn't have did all the stuff he did before his draft afraid to be drafted by the Chargers if he could have just taken himself off of the draft board.

Shepard is a very proud guy, and I think is attempting to up sell himself a little here.

Why is Shep trying to destroy his career before it begins...

Most of the time, none of the money is guaranteed. But if he does blow up you have him under contract for 2 more years. See Pierre Thomas & Chris Ivory.

Well say this CBA was in place in '04. Eli takes his name off the board and signs with NY as an UDFA. He doesn't get the guaranteed millions. He has a 3 year contract for a few hundred thousand. That's why top prospects won't do this.

that is what I was going to say. The draft would turn into a cluster pretty quickly.

I'm sure he started fielding calls about signing as an UDFA while the draft was still going. Maybe he's trying to add more juice to that.

This is most likely what really occurred

No there would be a bidding war for him.

You left off his 1st sentence, which is kinda important & makes your response wrong.

I think the rookie pool just applies to draft picks.

no, they are auto 3 year deals max of $390K in year one. But a few sign 'split deals' which will pay them a lower salary ($270K if they are put on IR)
