Running games in the NFL

Richardson sucks yes I know
But it seems like every year rushing the football gets less effective. Am I wrong ? I may be but it seems like every team is running into brick walls.

It's more of teams focusing on throwing the ball rather than running games sucking.

It's a passing league because people want it to be. A team could be successful by trying to get a dominate run game going, but they won't try.

OP has a good point.
Look at some RB's in the early to mid 90's. Way better RBs back then.

Look up the stats of all the teams in the NFL. It seems like 100 yds rushing as a team is considered good now.

Well AP has carried my fantasy team for two years, so I was just showing ohm some love.

Most RB's need to be versatile to be great in this league.
There are a few exception in AP, gore, and lynch (yes I know they all get receiving yards, but they're more brusiers)
Llesean mccoy, matt forte, ray rice (not including this year), arian foster, and jamaal charles are both shifty RBs that can catch out of the backfield and I think that is what the league is turning into.

Perhaps. Look at LSU last week against Florida. We played classic run-heavy football and the Rantards went ape shite.

I doubt any team could dominate running the ball today. Maybe for a few games but not consistently.

With the right guys, they could probably be a playoff team. They wouldn't dominate, but it could work. They're afraid of it actually working though because the NFL, the media, they don't want it to be that way.

rules favor wr's much more than they did even 5 years ago. it's very hard to play defense in the league without drawing a flag

You'd better have a badass defense. Which doesn't exist anymore. Offenses have too many advantages.

Minnesota pretty much got into the playoffs last year on a dominating running game and a good defense. They didn't get far though, but they can get there.

It's a direct result of the new "safety" rules. Every year, the rules make playing pass defense more and more difficult leader to passing offenses having an easier and easier time throwing the ball and putting up huge numbers. This makes running the ball less important and less attractive since teams are often getting behind by two or more touchdowns early and often and constantly passing to keep up.

Passing rules are easier and Quarterbacks are more developed so teams are throwing it more often is the simple explanation. But even then the numbers haven't really changed much in 30 years.

AP disagrees
Right. Because AP is the norm in the NFL. Every team has a running back like him.
