The one way to make it interesting would be for it to be "team golf" and have an extensive qualifying tournament. Get it down to the top 8 countries and have a match play tournament like the NCAAs. This would be different and fun. Like everyone else is saying, this is just another tournament to these guys

Few things get my loins more aroused than Fat Pat on a hot summer day in Brazil playing for the US mother frickin A.

Maybe some nudes of Fat Pat, or nudes of Fat Pat covered in sugar free maple syrup. Or nudes of Fat Pat covered in sugar free maple syrup on a hot day in Brazil while he's winning a gold medal.

Boom

especially not with the dumbass stroke play format.

When they announced Golf back in the Olympics...I assumed it would be a team tournament. Either some hybrid of stroke and match play like the NCAA Championship, or complete match play like the Ryder Cup...not your standard PGA Tour stop stroke play event.

Or if you even want to cut out qualifying to keep the season going, just use the world golf rankings. Just start going down the rankings from #1 and when you find 4 golfers that are from the same country, team #1, then the next country with 4, team #2, etc.

Believe they put wrestling back in ... It was slated to be removed after this one, but they voted again (I think) ...

In 1900 and 1904 the olympics weren't the olympics. It was the worlds fair back then.

Baseball, maybe.

But softball was a freaking joke.

When was golf added anyhow? They didn't have it when it was here in 96. Johnson or Spieth said the Ryder Cup is more important anyhow.

Yeah they tried to pull a fast one because the western European countries generally suck at wrestling.

that would work. or you could just have a committee from each country pick the four players, similar to gymnastics. northern ireland and england should really have separate teams, but i'm pretty sure people from northern ireland can either pick to compete for great britain or ireland.

usa - DJ, spieth, bubba, rickie
south africa - branden grace, louis oosthuizen, charl schwartzel, Jaco Van Zyl (or they could select ernie or retief)
great britain - rory, danny willett, justin rose, russell knox
sweden - stenson, david lingmerth, alex noren, jonas blixt
australia - day, scott, leishman, scott hend
japan
korea
france, germany or spain

that 8th team might be a little weak, or maybe the 8th team would be ireland, with rory, graeme and shane lowry playing separate. but overall, could have some decent teams in there.
