Per @sbjsbd, Tony Romo will not just land with CBS in 2017, but also replace Phil Simms as its No. 1 color guy.

I don't have any idea how Romo will be in the booth but I know for sure that it would be better than Simms.

I guess I don't watch enough NFL for this to truly matter, but how does anyone know if Romo will be any good?

Is Simms out? Or just getting bumped down?

I'm sure they feel pretty comfortable with how he's performed in tests/trials. They probably like that they could have him for the next 20 years and he'll still be in his 50s as well.

I don't really complain about color commentary but this is an upgrade no matter what. Simms is just miserable.

I think Romo could/will be very good in the booth after some work, but I also have wondered this.

I'd assume it's something that those in the business know from interacting from behind closed doors, something the fans find hard to comprehend due to seeing the straight face in front of the locker for so long.

Yup.

I mean, I don't blame Romo at all. This is an excellent opportunity for him moving forward. But I can certainly see why some people may be saying, "wtf" haha.

Romo's knowledge of golf I'm assuming was a big draw as well. If he ends up being solid on both fronts it's a win/win for the network.

If you are CBS, how do you know that Tony Romo will be any better than Phil Simms? Let me tell you why. Its because Romo is better than Phil Simms.

It's a little shocking they're acting so quick on tossing out a guy whose spent years in broadcasting to a guy whose never been in a broadcast booth. I like Romo, hope he does well.
