and likely playing their best ball.

Tonight was Houston's first game of the season at full strength and on the back end of a road trip....and it showed.

again, Houston at full strength will be the exception rather than the rule. If your guys are always hurt, your team really isn't that great.

Obviously that depends on who is hurt. They won 22 straight with no Yao last year, they have the 2nd best record in the West up to this point having missed key pieces the whole season until now. They can win 50-55 games regardless of who is hurt unless it's 2 of the big 3. The key is being healthy come playoff time which has never been an issue for the Rockets except for last year.

The Rockets are in that second group (along with teams like the Hornets & Magic) of teams right after the top tier (Boston, Cleveland, LAL).

I will say that I am as unimpressed with the Cavs now as I was before the game.

IMO, the top tier is LAL and BOS. They are the prohibitive favorites to win each conference. Cleveland is in the 2nd group along with about 6 or 7 other teams.

if cleveland continues to dominate through january will you change your tune? i think they're clearly in the top tier, they look better than the lakers at this point IMO

Whatever dude. Just saying that every major sports outlet's NBA power rankings have it 1) Boston 2) Cleveland 3) LAL, in that order.

I will probably move them to the top tier along with one western conference team later in the season as the teams with the best chance to knock off the celts or lakers, but I can't see a situation where I would say they have as good a chance to win as LAL or BOS.

I don't see it personally, the Cavs just don't really scare me.

The only difference is if you're King motherfrickin James, a transcendent once in a generation superstar, your supporting cast can afford to lack some quality and yet you're still capable of winning a championship.

Chris Paul is not on that level... a 6'8 240 hybrid freak of nature can imprint a game in far more ways than a 5'7 point guard.

That's their opinion, I have my own. Those power rankings are based primarily off of W-L records.

Another thing, the Cavs actually play defense unlike the Hornets... AND are even more efficient on offense!

the cavs have a pretty damn good supporting cast around james now. they've got a bunch of guys that can hit open shots and a few that can create their own pretty well. and they play lights out defense. i think they're going to win it all this year, but that's just my opinion

The cavs outplayed them at home tonight, but once again, the big man from china gets raped by the referees. If there is a hack a shaq then there is a fou(l) a yao.
