as a colts fan.. here is how i see it.
1.we give up 1st rd pick (what 20-30th pick overall) on a rb that we need. Lost one to injury and bradshaw is notorious for his feet breaking. We know what we are getting with trent, and that late first rd pick may be a bust.

2. we got trent for petty cash, browns paid him to play for us. If it doesnt work out later we can let him go not losing any money at all.

3. if brafdshaw can stay healthy it will be the perfect 1-2 combo in the backfield we need in indy to keep us balanced and luck picking defenses apart

Don't feel like reading the entire thread. People think this was a bad deal for the Colts?

Only the people that are convinced Trent is a bust 18 games into his NFL career.

I'd say it was a good deal for both teams.

This is absolutely ridiculous. Richardson is only 22 and has plenty of time to grow as an RB.

I don't think it's a really good deal for the Browns. Colts are going to the playoffs this year, which means the Browns will be getting, at the most, the 20th picks.

Did you really expect him to do well in a brand new offense a couple days after being traded?

If it wasn't a very heavy QB draft I'd agree. I just think they could find a good guy late if they end up failing into getting Clowney. Now if they end up with Bridgewater or someone else early, I think it was sort of a waste to get rid of a guy who could your franchise RB.

They did apparently sent a lot of scouts to College Station for the Alabama game, so maybe they fell in love with JFF and think they build around him while running a similar system to A&M. I mean they threw the ball 50+ times and actually have 2 very good weapons at WR and TE.

It just doesn't seem smart to get rid of a very good RB on the possibility that you might get a good QB.

Based on this logic you should always trade all of your draft picks for free agents and only pursue proven commodities.

What?

I would give up Adrian Peterson any day for a borderline top 10 QB. Flacco showed us if you have talent, and get hot at the right time, you can win a Superbowl.

Exactly. You live and die by the QB position in today's NFL.

Also QBs have a longer shelf life if you guess right

No matter how good a RB is, they have short shelf lives. Peterson is the exception, not the rule.

We're talking about a 22 yo top 10 RB.

ETA: And that's not at all what I said.

That's not the question. They're giving away a top 10 back for a late 1st round pick. There's no guarantee they're going to get a good QB. Most QBs taken in the draft aren't worth dick.

This is true, but I'm still not convinced of why trading Richardson is a good thing. Everyone is assuming the Browns are going to get a Brees, Manning, Flacco, etc. They have a much higher percentage of trading Richardson for a Mark Sanchez, Christian Ponder, Blaine Gabbert, the list goes on.

And at 22, he could already be on the way down.

I'm not saying he won't be great, but he really could be out of the league in 5-6 years.
