2000: Oklahoma, Florida State, Miami, Washington:

Miami defeats Oklahoma in the finals in close game

2001: Miami, Oregon, Colorado, Nebraska:

Miami defeats Oregon in the finals easily

2002: Miami, Ohio State, Georgia, Oklahoma

Miami defeats Georgia in finals (after Georgia knocks off Ohio State in first round and Miami very narrowly escapes Oklahoma)

Side Note: USC might very well have been the best team in CFB during the 2002 season, but media bias and favoritism would have gotten Oklahoma into the 4th spot over them

2003: USC, LSU, Oklahoma, Michigan

LSU narrowly defeats USC in finals

2004: USC, Oklahoma, Auburn, Utah

USC puts beat down on Auburn in the finals, just like they did during the 2003 regular season

2005: USC, Texas, Penn State, Georgia

Texas narrowly defeats USC in finals

2006: Ohio State, Florida, USC, LSU

LSU defeats Florida in finals in a payback game after losing during the regular season

2007: Ohio State, LSU, Georgia, USC

USC Defeats Georgia in finals

2008: Florida, Oklahoma, USC, Texas

USC narrowly knocks off Tim Tebow and UF in finals ( and Tebow cries on his dad’s shoulder)

2009: Alabama, Texas, Florida, TCU

Texas defeats Alabama in final game narrowly because the Colt McCoy injury never happens

2010: Auburn, Oregon, TCU, Wisconsin

Auburn narrowly defeats TCU in final game m

2011: LSU, Alabama, Oklahoma State, Stanford

Alabama defeats LSU in final game

2012: Notre Dame, Alabama, Oregon, Florida

Alabama defeats Florida in final game in tough defensive battle.

2013: Florida State, Auburn, Michigan State, Alabama

Florida State still defeats Auburn in final game in a nail biter

I know it’s all hearsay at this point, but I would love to be able to go back and watch all of these scenarios play out and see who really would have won these match ups.

USC very well might have won, but the 2004 Auburn squad was light years better than the 2003 squad. You assuming Auburn would just lay over is humorous. That team was stacked. Best defense in CFB that year and a rushing attack you couldn’t load the box against due to a first round pick at QB and 4 NFL WRs.

See, Auburn in 2012 versus Alabama and Auburn in 2013 versus Alabama.

TCU would have made it in 2009 over Boise. I don't think people realize how close we were to a Bama-TCU championship game. Texas (thankfully) ended that with a clutch game winning kick.

Jason White won the Maxwell award and Oklahoma had Adrian Peterson who finished 2nd in Heisman voting probably because he was only a freshman.

And they still got beat down. 55-19.

While Auburn beat Va-Tech 16-13.

Do you want me to be totally honest? With a playoff system in place, I believe USC would have won four titles in five years (2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006) and people would be having Jordan-Lebron, Ronaldo-Messi debate conversations about Carroll vs. Saban today.

USC’s defense was even better than Auburn’s. Look at what they did to Adrian Peterson and company.

Also, USC’s offense was wayyy better than Auburn’s

Who knows?

But they had a legit shot to win the title for 7 years in a row.

They won 6 out of 7 of their BCS games - their lone loss to VY by 3 points.

I think it was Pete Fiutak of CFB news in 2008 said that if we had a playoff USC might have won this thing every year because they were always peaking in the end.

Pete Carroll had a 25-1 record in November during his tenure at USC.

That is definitely possible. I think they were good enough to win it all every single one of those years plus 2007 and 2008. They were scary good under Pete Carroll, kind of like Bama has been this decade.

This is the only I can call straight silliness. That Florida team was not losing. And Oklahoma wasn't losing to anybody but Florida.

2006 USC was their probably their weakest team from 2003-2008.

Booty wasn't that good.

UCLA snapped USC's NCAA-record streak of 63 consecutive 20-point games in the final regular season game...knocking USC out of the BCS title game.

They did whip Michigan in the Rose Bowl that people thought should have gotten a rematch with Ohio State in the BCS title game (but we all saw what Florida did to Ohio State.) - would have been nice to see Florida play USC instead that year.

The biggest snub was 2008 with USC's all-time great defense. That should have been USC/Florida and probably would have with a 4-team playoff...USC lost in week 2 by 6 points and could never climb back to #1 or #2.

People forget how stacked that Oklahoma team was offensively, and they still had one of the best defenses in college football on top of that. Adrian Peterson and Jason White finished second and third in the Heisman voting that year.

So, in the lead up to that national championship game, you had ESPN trumpeting that the players who finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th in the Heisman voting were going to be playing on the same field at the same time. And White had won the Heisman the year before.

The hype proceeding the 2005 Orange Bowl was astronomical.

We will never know. Go take a look at 2008 USC’s roster. It was absolutely stacked, especially on defense with 3 first round linebackers in Clay Matthews, Brian Cushing, and Rey Maulauga. They had numerous other high draft picks and a 1st round pick at QB in Mark Sanchez. They were scary good.

Also, Texas was a one loss team who defeated Oklahoma, but there just might not have been enough room in the playoff for them.

Oregon over Stanford.

Nice catch. I’ll fix it to include Georgia. They would have gotten in as a 1 loss conference champion.

However, Oregon would not have gotten in. We’ve already seen how the playoff committee treats this. The 1-loss team that failed to win its conference or even division gets in over a 2-loss conference champion. See 2016 Ohio State and 2017 Alabama

Vegas had USC (minus-1) over Oklahoma.

That's how close they felt the public viewed this game. Nobody knew who was going to win.

It's the closest line on a BCS title game and yet the biggest margin of victory.

2008 is the one that bothers me the most. That might have been Petes most talented team, but the offense laid an egg that night in Corvallis.

Definitely. That team was stacked. They were good enough to beat anyone that they might have had to face that year, including Florida, Oklahoma, or Texas.

Oregon destroyed Stanford in Palo Alto and won the conference. They only had an extra loss because they actually played someone worth a shite OOC (#1 LSU in Jerry World). The other loss was to 10-2 USC and it was close. Not like Ohio State last year who got blown out by 7-5 Iowa.
