First of all, it's pretty clear that many of you haven't read the facts underlying this situation.

Manning didn't "moon a teammate." He stuck his arse/taint/balls in a female trainer's face after she shunned some obnoxious banter. Chalk that up to being young and immature? Sure, except.......

7 years later Manning writes a book and slanders this woman resulting in her leaving her job at Florida Southern College. She sues and wins. Okay, so he made another mistake. Forgiveness and all that, but.........

After a gag order was issued upon her winning her slander case against Manning he mentions it again 2 years later. He has to settle again for the 3rd time.

This guy is basically the Lance Armstrong of the NFL.

ETA: My Armstrong comment was meant to describe Manning's ability to crush people to protect his image. I'm not questioning his on field abilities, HGH or not.

Well one happened 20 years ago and the person hasn't had any other negative press and Cam is more recent with more recent negative press. I would hope you can see the difference in that....

I'm talking about the Cam laptop thing, i've seen that at least a dozen times this past week.

I haven't seen anyone ask why we're bring up stuff from 8 years ago, nope.

Add to the fact that 20 years ago the internet was not what it is today and I think your rhetorical question is easily answered and it isn't about race as much as about the timing.

It can and very likely is about both.

Uhh, like 8 years later, why would it come up?

So then, before this, why hasn't the Peyton sexual assault thing come up over the years?

Or, are you insinuating it comes up just as much as Cam's transgressions?

I don't really care about this because he faced his consequences. However, isn't there at least more debate regarding the facts of Manning's situation whereas it's been definitively proven that Cam stole the laptop?

Sure, but I'd ask you, when have we ever bee discerning about the facts when an athlete is in legal trouble? When have we ever taken the wait and see approach? Why finally decide to take it with Peyton? That just further fits the narrative i've pointed out in this thread about going out of our way to protect Peyton that we wouldn't do for others.

She also settled I believe with both the university and Manning, and if you read the excerpts from the court documents coming to light, it's certainly not painting Peyton in a good light. And let's be honest, if the same exact thing were going on with Cam we wouldn't be saying "why are we bringing this up now" and the majority of the board wouldn't be defending Cam by saying "it hasn't been definitely proven", right?

If you analyze the facts of the case objectively, it's pretty tough not to believe her version of events. The letter written by a fellow athlete who was a witness in the locker room is pretty telling as are the 2 subsequent settlements resulting from Manning slandering her and then violating a gag order.

Laptop is more recent and at least on this board he played for an SEC team that won a national championship. I know on the ESPN boards I see it brought up it is usually an SEC fan who brings it up, I don't see it brought up among the national media though. But 8 years is still a lot more recent than 20 and he has had other issues such as the way his recruitment to State/Auburn went, to the investigation at Auburn, to the press conference he walked out on that has people out for him.
I don't think the two things can be really compared because of the length between everything. If Cam goes out and continues to be what he was this year (prior to the walk out) then in 20 years people won't bring up the laptop stuff.

Well they like Peyton and hate Cam. That's simple.

If it were Cam that had been in Peyton's situation it'd be a bunch of "OMG can you believe this guy stuck his junk down this woman's throat? Why isn't he in prison for rape?" I mean this is nothing new. We give the guys we like the benefit of the doubt.

8 years is a loooooong time. FWIW, 8 years after the Peyton thing, we weren't still bringing it up like with Cam, so I'm not completely buying it.

Also, Peyton played in the SEC as well.

LeBatard had a solid take on it. He said it's like AI and Randy Moss, in the moment we heard a lot of the same stuff like we do with Cam. Lots of hate, blah blah blah. But then when they have their 30 for 30s years later, it's like everyone forgets that and has mostly nothing but good things to say. Probably the same will happen with Cam assuming a similar career arc as the other 2.

Agreed, that's certainly it.

Not that I think I have to be the moral police or whatever you wanna call it, but just because that's how it goes doesn't mean we should just let it be and not at least point out the hypocrisy IMO.

Show me where, in his book, that he slandered this bitch?

Come on, show us all, in his book, where he slandered her. We'll wait.

Manning openly violated a gag-order when he mentions her in his book. This isn't really questionable. LINK

And you answer with this:
