SEC/B1G could create a football league of their own without all of this nonsense.

That sounds great but not sure it will solve anything in regards to transferring and NIL, based on USSC rulings.

The NCAA is simply trying to stay relevant here, it seems.

Now is the time for individual universities to designate players as employees and have them sign contracts with non-compete clauses.

Just make it as ridiculous as possible at this point.

You guys are some serious whiners. There is nothing wrong with the portal other than fans of the normal powerhouse schools waking up and realizing something happened in this sport that doesn’t benefit you. I think it’s great. The days of Bama, UGA, LSU stacking 4 stars on their 3 deep are over because players are no longer allowed to be held hostage by a scumbag coach who straight up lied during their recruitment. Now, the players have options and y’all can’t handle it. I absolutely love it. My team has more 4 stars on their roster than they could ever recruit out of high school because what 18 year old kid doesn’t want to be patted on the back on announcement day. However, as they mature and realize the garbage they were fed they realize there is a lot more to life. If y’all want to keep your guys then simply pay them.

You are just as vulnerable as the next school. And if you are waiting for the football superteams to suddenly stop winning and getting to the playoffs, YOU are still waiting.

Ed O’Bannon ruined everything.

Why? Because UCLA forced EA sports to pay them a licensing fee for use of their marks in a video game while the 6'8, black, bald, PF wearing #31 on the game was entitled to nothing for the CLEAR use of his image and likeness?

Plus, O'Bannon didn't force the change in the transfer rules. It was a byproduct of one of the thousands of gross overreactions to the "panicdemic" that did that.

NIL alone hasn't caused college "free agency". Players were still getting paid to play BEFORE NIL...it just wasn't out in the open. The short-sighted and ultimately dumb decision to completely overreact to just the latest in the line of novel respiratory illnesses to arise from Asia caused it all. No one was really fighting against the transfer rules before the NCAA opened the floodgates in 2020-2021

Players could still transfer before 2020. They just had to sit out a season which was somewhat akin to a "breech of contract penalty". The rules that the coaches could dictate where a player could and could not transfer were stupid and needed to be done away with. But the 1 year "penalty" was reasonable.

shite, Just let them trade players mid season for scholarship funds and bench players. Maybe Put all the transfer player into a pool and do a draft every season that guarantees NIL amounts with how you are drafted. Hell, how about we split up all of d1 football into 2 conferences with 4 divisions. We could give them 3 letter abbreviations... Keep the SEC... I'm kinda partial to traditions. SEC and OTH for others.

Why can’t there be a 1 year sit out rule for transfers ?

Ooh. This is interesting.

Now you are giving schools incentive to push down academic status of it's players to keep them from being eligible to transfer.

The truth is that the NCAA can't enforce this new rule any more than it could enforce its transfer limit rule.

Brian Kelly next.

Many coaches that have gotten a big contract or two by age 50 are just going to retire.

Make the money, retire young. You'll see WAY less of these guys stay in college into their 60s and 70s.

Because the federal courts will rule that it’s an illegal barrier to people marketing their talents in the free market. Don’t look at this through a sports prism, sports people have lost their grip on the steering wheel for this.

And if the NCAA is being neutered, the LHSAA is next…

I say if they get their AA, let them transfer after spring semester is over. Get their BS or BA, then they can grad transfer.

Stop giving money to collectives and just let it be what it was originally intended to be instead of just money for being on a team as a recruiting inducement. That solves a lot of problems

I'm no fan of the NCAA but I'm not sure what they are supposed to do. The court system rightly or wrongly has put them in a straight jacket

I don't expect much to change unless a contact system develops or a major break off occurs

I'd love to get to a point where players are transferring mid game. You have guys give up and walk to the other sideline playing for the winning team.

Let it get so absurd people stop watching and the stadiums are empty.

It will never happen but would be satisfying for the power 5 coach’s to refuse to take portal players.

This is actually pretty interesting. I wonder what would happen if coaches decided to do this

Reminds me of farming stuff

Lots of farmers feel the wholesalers don't give us our fair shake so they say we should all just refuse to sell or even grow a crop for a year to force them to give us "fair" prices. The problem is as the price of grain gets higher and higher inevitably someone is going to be able to resist the huge money and will sell and the dominos will fall after that

There would inevitably be a coach that would give in and take the best player in the country and then the whole thing would fall apart
