A simple question: do we hear an uproar every year in the NFL about which teams made it in and which not, even though, for example, the NFC South is woefully weak compared to the others? Of course we don't... and it's because there's a PREDETERMINED FORMULA.

The system should be fluid.

Meaning

If the situation calls for it have a wildcard playoff for the forth spot.

Baylor vs Ohio state

Four is plenty. In most years, at most only two deserve to be champions, anyway. There is no need to include more because there already exists a rational method of selecting two or even four.

Maybe more teams will make the effort to schedule good OOC games knowing that the experience from a big game will help later on. There is also seeding to be determined and bigger wins could help.

I think you are overstating how much an 8 team playoff will kill the regular season.

i made that argument years ago

the original "plus one" model was about this. you play the bowls and if there is still a controversy, play one more game

4 teams is doing a good enough job. 8 will truly destroy the regular season. take the MSU-Bama game...meaningless. Ole Miss-Bama? meaningless. Baylor-TCU? meaningless

Bull. Leaving out a 2 loss non conference champ lends itself to a lot less bitching than leaving out two 1 loss conference champs.

I think the only obvious answer is TCU vs Baylor. They were kind enough to decide that one on the field for us.
this playoff is a cluster and I already hate it. We are essentially watching a combo of rastlin, figure skating, and the Olympic site selection process.
What to do about it? My favorite solution is 8 team playoff. 5 big conference champs get auto bid, which makes conference championship races interesting again. Yesterday Sucked for the most part and 1/9/2012 rendered conference championships useless.
Remaining 3 chosen by a committee. That still gives us the dysfunction we loved about the BCS, but can still give a conference with 2 great teams or a small school with a great year a shot.
Play quarters at home field
Semis at bowls
Championship game =super bowl spectacle

I heard the problem with the committee isn't the people like Condi, it's the old school coaches/AD's, who are forcing their will on everyone else.

They said these guys are literally bullying the others into their view.

Where is it played. Does that venue hold that day open and spend money on prep "just in case". That's dumb.

Honestly, does Conde Lisa Rice belong on a college football committee?

i'm sure a place like the rose bowl isn't exactly blowing up with events in early january

the NCAA certainly could reserve a set venue for the event. move all bowls back to Jan 1 at the latest and set the "plus one" game Jan 15. it won't be much later than the current set up and it will allow 2 weeks for prep. it's not some crazy issue

Why do you think an AD would be better? He doesn't watch every game, he has huge biases towards his conference.

c'mon No one affiliated with any college program should of been on the committee.

How about someone that played football and actually understands it.

Regardless of who the committee picks this year or another year, when you only have 4 spots and 5 power conferences there is always going to be an argument about which teams belong.

It's amazing then how the BCS a only had serious controversy a handful of years then with all the conferences and only two teams

Your mentality is once of the biggest reasons why many didn't want the BCS to go completely away.

"frick THE REGULAR SEASON WE ALL NEED A PIECE OF THE PIE!"

The BCS avoided controversy when it did because it was geared at matching the two teams most worthy of a title.

Now the conversation is who deserves a chance to maybe win a title....something that is a lot muddier to do.
