Ian Rapoport? @RapSheet Sources: #Saints & Adrian Peterson believed to be closing in on a deal that’d pay him $3M+ in ’17. Not done, but moving in that direction.

So the Saints and Adrian Peterson are nowhere near a deal?

$3 million isn't bad. I'd be more worried about the length of the deal

Probably a 2-3 year deal that is cuttable after one year essentially making it a one year deal.

Good. Can we cut our punter and draft another to pay for it?

I hope he's dealt, has 1200 yards on 4.8 ypc, and AD misses 12 games with a toe injury.

That's a lot of money for a guy who cannot catch or pass protect.

I thought he was going to ask for 6 or so. So 3MM doesn't seem crazy to me.

What about a guy who is one year removed from leading the league in Rushing TDs and Rushing yards?

Hes a great back with one or two solid years left. Downhill slope but way up the list of rbs in nfl still. 3 mill for a championship run seems reasonable.

Ooh ooh can I play this game?

What about a guy that spent most of last year injured, will be 32, and has insane mileage on his legs? What about a guy who is completely useless when one of the best QBs of this generation drops back to pass?

Why is he going to the saints then?

He seemingly had NO market whatsoever so 3 million seems high

My thoughts exactly. It sounds like he went around a bunch of playoff contenders and they didn't want him. So his only landing spot is NOLA.

Furthermore, aren't the saints trying to find someone to fill the role of Sproles in that offense?

Obviously you can, you started it with your first comment.

This is all true, and why the Saints would be getting him at a steep discount.

Do you think he will be the Saints' third down back or something? Besides, even the Saints ran the ball 400 times last year. There's room for him to make an impact there.

You can't possibly judge anything based off a total number without knowing the structure.
