2nd round pick last year out of FSU, strong rookie season.

McKenzie indicated the neck issue is something genetic that's been there for a while and was discovered after the injury vs. Green Bay.

quote:

Edwards, who played his college football for the Florida State Seminoles, played in 14 games for the Raiders in the 2015-16 season. He started in 10 of those games, recording 2.5 sacks in the process. He had a season-best eight tackles on November 15 in a loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

It is worth noting that after the injury he suffered against Green Bay, the one which actually helped discover the genetic aspect of the neck issue, Edwards didn’t play again for the rest of the season.

Football obviously takes a backseat to the long term health of Edwards, though it would be rather tragic if it ends up being a non-football issue which prevents him from ever stepping foot on a football field ever again.

Hate to hear that. He was a man child on the defensive line when Auburn played Florida State in 2013. He was damn near unblockable.

Damn... Sucks to hear that.

Kid was a monster at FSU and had a solid rookie season. Def looked like he had a bright future ahead of him in the NFL. Hate seeing things like this.

He was the best player on the field in that game. He bullied Robinson and ran down Nick Marshall time after time. It's a shame if he can never play again.

Damn, that sucks.

I met his cousin awhile back, he came into my work one day and we got to talking. This was a couple months before the draft. The whole family was so excited and proud of him. He's got a really nice family, really tight knit and supportive. Said LSU was a close #2 before committing to FSU. Hope he can find his way back out on the gridiron.

Actually Alex Kozan graded out as the best player in that game...

I hate that. He was great on the edge against the run

That is terrible. I actually did not want the Saints to touch this guy for some reason but he had a pretty good rookie season.

Raiders are basically losing their entire defensive line in one offseason that's barely begun.

On one hand, I hate to hear that as this was probably the kid's dream. That being said, I am glad they found it before it killed/crippled him and now he has some cash in the bank to begin his new life.
