What you and the rest ignore is the fact that a shite load of alums wanted him fired LAST YEAR. Yep, after taking over a program that was in a steep downward trajectory, cleaning house, etc... they wanted him out after 2 years.

Shaggy had a fire Charlie thread that was hundreds of pages long BEFORE this season. Good lord. STFU.

Well that is besides the point. Sumlin has been given plenty of time.

3 seasons (12, 11, 11) plus 3 games into season 4 = 37 games.

Math is hard, I know.

Well it doesn't make sense to compare first 37 games if 3 of the games are in season 4 dumbass. Then the guy goes 10-2 is season 4.

If Strong had beaten Kansas and TCU he is still the coach and the reason why is...no way in hell they would fire a black coach going to a bowl game. Any white coach with his record would have been fired after the Kansas loss. UT was so worried about bad PR they kept saying they would evaluate Strong after the end of the season. Meanwhile every "expert" even the black ones were saying he had to be fired.

So a coach gets fired with a SH*TTY record at a HISTORIC program and because he is African American it is racism. Ok Les Miles was the MOST successful coach in LSU history and he didn't have as SH*TTY a record as Strong and he was fired is that reverse racism?

Look Strong is a good coach that was caught in the perfect storm, a hot and upcoming coach that has coached in Texas for 10years that is tailor-made to coach UT and UT was his dream job was about to get stolen away from UT by LSU. And if he went to LSU, UT figured they would not have a chance to hire him if he was successful at LSU which he would have been. Strong's team sh*t the bed 3 years in a row with his worst year this year. UT is too proud of a program to let that continue and they had what they felt was the next Meyer they wanted to get. And to compound things for Strong his defenses were HORRIFIC and he is a defensive specialist by trade. So there was ZERO reason not to fire him I don't give a sh*t what color of skin he has, if he had white skin he should have been fired, same if his skin color is green, red, blue, black, brown, purple or any other color you want to say. When you are the 6th highest paid coach in college football you are expected to perform like it. He didn't and he was fired, it was the right thing to do. You get paid to WIN, not lay eggs 3 years in a row!

coach 2 is worse even if they're both godawful. If Strong had beaten KU this year (which would have made him 17-20 after 3 years) he might have been retained.

I see how it works in the sorts of circles you miserables occupy, I don't see that same sentiment in society at large - thankfully.

That continued, his players quit on him. UT had the talent to roll Kansas by 30 points when they knew his job was on the line.

I have an account there, and they flat fricking crucified Mack - the guy that got them a natty and was still - albeit lame, serving up bowl years.

It's a brutal climate, especially at blueblood programs. Mgoblog wanted Rodriguez gone after two years, and he actually showed improvement. Was he fired for being Latino?

Maybe they just learned their lesson about waiting too long to fire a shitass coach.

They could have just said, hey, let's not waste the full 5 years like we did last time and get rid of this loser now.

Ah yes, racist old Austin, where the KKK has daily marches and highly successful black coaches are fired for being black.

One might assume a racist school wouldn't have hired the black coach to begin with, but Logic or facts are never required when playing the race card.

Not much doubt about it. Firing Charlie Strong after 3 seasons was basically the same thing Notre Dame did with Ty Willingham.

Willingham got fired because after that 8-0 start in 2002 (first season), they lost at home to a bad BC team and got their doors blown off by USC and NC State. His next two teams got infinitely worse and he couldn't recruit worth a damn. ND isn't the job it once was, but they can do a whole lot better than that.

ETA: Another big reason he was fired is because ND wanted Urban Meyer

Yeah, as much as I was hoping the race card would come out so Texas would have to keep Strong, I had no disillusions that racism had anything to do with it. I just figured the freaks in Austin would go to that extreme.

But just saying that they had basically the same record doesn't tell the whole story. It's a dishonest argument.
