You may be wondering how this knucklehead found his way into qualifying. After all, the tournament requires a handicap not exceeding 1.4 under the USGA system. However, there is a loophole. If you declare yourself as a professional, you don't need to submit a handicap, as it's assumed you're capable of the endeavor at hand. A proviso that's at play here: the golfer in question -- one Clifton McDonald -- is not signified as an amateur on the local qualifier score board.
Never give up on your dreams

I'm sure he will probably be barred from any future US Open qualifiers.
It's kind of funny, but, really, it is just an a-hole move by that guy. I feel sorry for the people he had to play with and also for the golfers behind him.

*Reporter- How did you shoot a 127?
*Clifton- Well Wade, I missed a three foot octuple-bogey putt on 16 that would've given me a 126!

Some days your putter just isn't working.

If he doesn't take that 2-stroke penalty on 9 for putting his ball into the flag, then another stroke penalty for throwing the flag like a javelin, you're talking about a much more respectable day.

the guy beind him qualified. maybe he found the humor in it and it was able to relax him, but i agree that is a lot of wait around time.

What is impressive is that he only had 23 putts... it was the other 104 strokes that got him.

That 14 he took on the par 5 16 was a fricking bitch!

I remember playing down at Myrtle Beach years ago. I think it was at The Surf Club. We were behind this foursome teeing off and we were the second group of the morning.
This guy tees it up and whiffs three times. To his credit, he turned to us and said, "Man this is a tough course!". I asked the starter if we could go off #10 and he agreed.
