The interesting part about Duke to me is that the collective student body actually has a pretty big chip on its shoulder. Most of them wanted to go to Ivies or Stanford but didn’t get in, so they go to Duke in NC where they are just viewed as dorks by the surrounding population. Definitely an interesting social dynamic.
ETA: It’s pretty unique in that it’s an elite school but is not the “dream school” for that many people.

I applied but they don't even tell you whether you got in until late April. I ended up letting them know I accepted another offer.
Not sure if it's different now.
