That 300+ OOC rpi did wonders. That's a normal schedule for your Head Coach in Waiting. Jankovich cost himself an NCAA bid at Illinois State a few years back for the same thing.

And now Jankovich is head coach in waiting at SMU

Every year a team gets left out for a bad non conference schedule. It's like the committee does it on purpose to make a point

I would imagine the scheduling gets corrected in years to come. What's the wrap on Jankovich coaching/recruiting wise? He brought us Nic Moore, who is an absolute stud, so I have positive inclinations just from that.

His recruiting at Illinois State was very hit or miss. Got Jackie Carmichael who was an absolute stud for ISU. Missed bad on a 3 star from Missouri, Justin Clark. Averaged less than 3 pts a game before transferring to a D2. Got a few solid juco guys.

No complaints with what he did at ISU. He was never happy in the community and couldn't schedule worth a shite. Always had a golly gee attitude. Would never take accountability for losses. In his time at Illinois State (I'm a season ticket holder) he never once ran an out of bounds play...

That's brutal. Didn't think they would be left out at all.

Did Lunardi have them in or out in his last projection?

ETA: Just Lunardi has them in.

I'm not saying that SMU should/shouldn't have gotten in but....

Well yes, they are trying to make a point. Every year we hear them say that the games in Nov. and December mean as much as the games in Feb. and March. Go out and schedule some good OOC games. It makes college basketball better as a whole

There are alot of teams in the tournament that should be in the NIT and not the big dance. Hell I don't like La Tech but I think they should be in the tournament.

Not sure why that's funny. It's sad. Duke in the same scenario, on the other hand, would be gut busting hilarity.

and this is the problem with a faceless group of bureaucrats subjectively choosing who gets in

...and people want this for college football?

I'm not saying that I agree that SMU should have left out, but I heard someone on the committee made a comment that SMU's RPI was something like 123 or so. The lowest at large RPI in the tournament was in the 70s.... or something like that. The SMU RPI was far lower than the last at large teams selected for the NCAA tournament.

#57 RPI. Not really. A few good wins, but they lost to some atrocious teams (Temple, UCF, Houston). Their OOC SOS was in the 300s. That said, their other losses were to #1 Virginia, @ Arkansas, @ Cinci, @ Louisville, Louisville, and @ Memphis.

#57 RPI

This is what I don't understand. Some years, the committee is focused on RPI, some years they worry about SOS, but doesn't RPI take SOS into account??

Their RPI was good enough, they had more nice wins than bad losses, and I thought they should have been in the tournament.
