Pete Carroll and John Harbaugh on short list of coaching candidates at USC

SC people need to let go of Pete. Harbaugh, thou, would be a home run hire.

According to Dan Patrick of "The Dan Patrick Show," two sources "behind the scenes" at USC told him Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll was on the program's "short list" of coaching candidates and they thought he could be talked into returning to USC, where he coached for nine seasons and won two national championships.
"Pete Carroll is on that short list right now," Patrick said. "Not that Pete would leave Seattle. But the alumni are all in on trying to get Pete back ... The people who help make decisions there, they think Pete Carroll is in play. This what I was told, before the loss [on Sunday], if it goes south in Seattle, they think there is a chance that Pete would listen to go back to USC."
Patrick described the sources as "people who are behind the scenes" but not people making the decisions.
Patrick had previously reported that Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was also on USC's list of candidates.
SC people need to let go of Pete. Harbaugh, thou, would be a home run hire.

Both would be at the top of my list. Doesn't mean I'd get them.
I could see Carroll being interested though, he likes to jump ship before it all crumbles.

I kind of thought John Harbaugh's name would get brought up. I don't pay enough attention to the NFL to know how he's doing this year, but he's been in Baltimore for a while now.

It's not as far fetched as you think. Pete is still held in very high regard at SC. Reggie is the one that's hated on, mostly.

Carroll should have had a show cause but the assistant took the fall just like with this Pitino deal.
Harbaugh is not leaving Michigan after one year for anywhere including back to the NFL, his buyout precludes that.
Sean Payton is not going to USC.
Whittingham would be a solid hire out there.
Chip Kelly would be the only one to go back to college and would be a good fit but I think he turns the Eagles around this year.
Jon Gruden is not leaving the MNF booth.

Have a friend that's a pretty big donor to SC (not a heavy hitter though) that said if you count out Jeff Fisher, you're crazy.
