I could have sworn I read or heard somewhere that downtown Cleveland was a dump during Lebron's first go round in Cleveland, but nowadays downtown Cleveland is in much better shape... Or basically the opposite of what Pierce said?

I mean I'm sure there are economic advantages to having a successful sports franchise, but it isn't that important. The entertainment industry is still small fries compared to the real economic players of the world. Paul Pierce is just overly self important and doesn't have perspective of his actual place in the world.

This is 1000% correct. Dan Gilbert has pumped a ton of money into downtown and it's pretty nice down there now.

Our Ohio posters can fill in the details, but I remember it was kind of rocking in the mid to late '90's with the Tribe rolling in the new stadium and the Flats (bars/restaurants) on the river were fun. Then, somewhere after that it tanked. But, thank god for D Gilbert pumping money into Cleveland and Detroit and helping bring them back somewhat.

Someone got shitfaced at the Flats one night, fell into the Cuyahoga River, and drowned. The Flats went downhill for a long time after that. They've been redone recently too and that area is always popping. Several Cavs players live down there

Those videos were hilarious. That guy plays at the Improv in downtown Cleveland sometimes. He made a similar video about the NBA on TNT crew.
