Not all that uncommon. Pats do seem to do it more than most though.

3rd time they've done it in the BB era.

Pats must feel comfortable that they can agree with McCourty before March 10th and they can get him to sign for less than 9.5 mil.

Cheapest position to franchise. Would otherwise pay him about the same anyway.

Safe call, when your players play along.

Gostkowski is money inside of 80 yds

I'd say he might even be better than Vinatieri minus the clutch super bowl clinching FGs

In Bill we trust. It's safe to say he's proven he can put together championship squads.

If he is so frickin important , maybe they should have let him kick that 49 yd field goal against the giants in the first super bowl against them.

Radio up in Boston is saying Revis is as good as gone. I expect the Patriots to go cheap (again), and Revis will walk, who knows what McCourty does and they will draft a CB early. Hoping they take a good OL/DL with the 32nd pick first

They get away with franchising these players when nearly every player in the league wants to play for BB and his championship squads.

I am 100% you don't know how the franchise tag works.

You need to Irish up your coffee bud.

I'll freak out when New England decides to let Revis and McCourty walk. If I had to guess, they are going to let the market set McCourty's price and pay him accordingly, and try to extend Revis for 5 years. Revis has to be the first chip that falls, so I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they have a wink wink deal with McCourty to sign after March 10th.
