Honestly, Stanford really isn't that great of a team. They've been out-gained in total yardage in four of their last six games. Against Washington, they were out-gained by nearly 200 yards. Against Oregon State, they only had 12 1st downs for the entire game. They lost to a Utah team that has a .500 record and lost three of their four games with their only win coming against Stanford. Their average scoring margin is +12 PPG which is very, very pedestrian for a top 10 ranked much less a top 5 ranked team. This Stanford team really isn't that much better than the Miami team that FSU hammered last week. Oregon will beat Stanford handily tonight.

Stanford reminds me a lot of Bama, but with less depth at the skill positions and inferior coaching. They're a power run team that could lean on that and win as long as their defense keeps the opponent under wraps, but you can only hold UO and Mariota down for so long before they break one or two long ones on you.

Hogan is still green and it showed during the Utah game, and Shaw basically turtled with his playcalling in that contest. I don't have a lot of confidence in him to win "the big games."

Stanford is good enough to beat most teams on most nights, but not this team on this night.

UO -41
Stanford -31

Oregon has had 12. Eta....so has Stanford.

and I guarantee Shaw rolled out a vanilla scheme against OSU because of this game.

if you've watched Stanford it has been that way more times than not because of unspectacular qb play.

Stanford won't score 20.

Exactly. They don't have the high level of play they got from their Tight Ends last year and while Gaffney is good, he's no Stepfan Taylor. I will be disappointed if we give up 20 points and would think it happens only if the Stanford D forces some turnovers.

Same here, and I fully expect Oregon to have an excellent game on defense. Aliotti gone have some fun tonight.

Oregon had trouble with UCLA until the half - then, once Oregon got rolling they were rolling...their offense can just change a game's dynamic in an instant as we all know.

Stanford can't do that.

They were physically manhandling and dominating UCLA but it was only 3-0 at halftime because Stanford's O is the opposite of dynamic.

The final score was only 24-10 - but Stanford dominated UCLA almost more than Oregon did.

Stanford is good enough - just like Bama can win a game 21-3 and the opponent is never really in the game despite the low score.

But I don't think that style works with this year's Ducks team. Stanford would have to be perfect all night on D - and eventually the Ducks usually find a way to open it up.

Why does no one think that Stanford playing Wash/UCLA the week before Oregon helped Oregon look better in both those games?

I just don't know if Stanford can score enough to win

UCLA gave Oregon the ball via turnovers and shanked punts. If Stanford has any chance in this game they cannot give Oregon any extra chances because you can only stop Oregon for so long. Despite losing 75% of their receptions from last year I just have this weird feeling Stanford doesn't give Oregon extra chances and makes it a 4th quarter game.

I'd really really like that to happen, but in fact you'll get beat like a rented mule. I figure about 45-10 Oregon. Maybe 55.

(but I'm way too p*ssy to bet on that -- besides, I really do hope Stanford sticks a (virtual) shiv in the damn Duck-Whores)

We're going to learn a lot about Mark Helfrich in this game. Shaw has proven his Xs and Os acumen, but it will be interesting to see if Oregon's talent proves to be too much.

People do realize that if Oregon loses, ohio state is gonna move that much closer to being in the title game right? Spare me.

I'm not as confident as other Duck fans because, like last year, their defense can make this a low scoring game where all Hogan has to do is put together a drive or two and still be in the game. Honestly, if Stanford keeps this close enough to where a FG wins the game, they win (I'm looking at you Maldonado/Wogan.)

With that being said though, I doubt Stanford holds the Ducks down all game like they did last year.

Oregon wins in a close, but two touchdown win 24-10.

Good piece of trivia.....
quote:

Did you know: Scott Frost, the Ducks’ offensive coordinator, played quarterback for two seasons at Stanford, and his first collegiate touchdown pass was caught by David Shaw, who is now the Stanford head coach. The touchdown pass came against Oregon in 1994.
