What do you guys think about going after Justin Turner?

I think Turner has been one of the most underrated players in baseball the past few years, but not sure why the Braves would be in the market for a 32 year old, likely expensive free agent.

Really need a third baseman. Could potentially put us into wildcard contention this year with a lot of young pitchers coming in the future.

No. Draft pick is too valuable

I wouldn't go that far and say the Braves would be a Wild Card team, but he would be a solid fit for them no doubt.

Nah, a player of Turner's caliber is way more valuable than the pick. He is very good.

Coppy has put us in a good position going into the winter meetings. I wouldn't be surprised to see us add any variation of another arm, catcher, and 3b.

Depends on the team and the situation. I don't think it is here. He will be on the downside of his career by the time the Braves are truly contenders.

Yes, i realize we are talking about a second round pick

Because Maitan and Riley are still a few years away. I like Rio Ruiz, but he hasn't shown that he can be an everyday 3b in the show. He has trouble with lefties and he hasn't shown much power at all

Turner is fairly old, but he does have not your average trajectory nor is his skill set one that would decline rapidly with age.

If you see the Braves being competitive enough to try for a playoff spot in 2018, then I would sign him. If not, then I get waiting.

Being a contender for the playoffs means nothing to me. When I say contend, I mean as a world series contender. I don't think 2018 is realistic for us to be contending for the series. Think 2020 is much more realistic time line for that with the way the organization is set up.

I fear he will command a Jayson Werth type deal.

Depends on the money. He started off slow last year, but picked up after they talked about trading him. I like the move tho. Management has failed us the past few years with crappy to shitty teams. I like to see someone trying.

I actually wouldn't be surprised by that either. I just think that Turner could bring good value on offense and Defense. He is a very good defender at 3rd.

There's always premium talent available later on because of sign-ability issues. The money that would have been allocated for any missing picks should afford the Braves to overpay for someone... or two.

I just don't see the Braves being close enough to contention to justify making win-now moves in the free agent market. I could be wrong though.

How do yall feel about Jaime vs what was given up? I don't know anything about what the Cardinals got in return.

We pretty much gave up three middle tier prospects that have very limited ceiling. We are gambling that Jamie has a bounce back year and we flip him for more at the deadline.

Nope.

Save the money.See if Ruiz is the man. If not, throw everything at Machado next year.

Plus, I dont want to give a 32 year old(no matter how he's been used previously) a 4-5 year deal worth 25 mil.

I think that it's a pretty good trade. We gave up Luke Dykstra, John Gant, and Chris Ellis. Both pitchers had a high ceiling of a 4th or 5th starter. Dystra is more of an organizational depth piece. He has VERY GOOD contact skills, but no power and not much wheels.
