Only for the reasons I stated above. IF that isn't true then I would completely agree with you

You mean you think Smith told Tressel to lie? That situation would probably be better for Tressel but worse for OSU, IMO.

At this point it really is about the NCAA vs OSU. Withholding information in this matter is a big issue and OSU will be dealt with.

Not if you are a college athlete on a full scholarship. Renounce your scholarship, quit the team, and THEN you can do whatever you want with your stuff.

Otherwise, schools like Oklahoma would be telling recruits, "And a certain alumnus will be calling you after the each game to buy your jersey and he'll pay you 10K."

I get that....but its changes things don't you think?

Not really, just makes the cover up include more people. I'd say it was worse but most likely can't be proven. If Tress doesn't get fired I think everyone will draw the same conclusion regarding the AD at minimum.

I would be for firing a guy that acted like Urban Meyer or Nick Saben. But Tressel is all class (except for this shenanigans). Just another bump in the road towards his second national title at OSU.

Ohio State got major violations because of its basketball program in 2006 and since these major violations fall within a 5 year window of the previous major violations, the NCAA is SUPPOSED to come down even harder on the Ohio State athletics department.

Tressel is screwed

Also......it is known that the TP (& other) jersey/tat violations started in 08. Even though Tressel can say he didn't know until 4/10, the players were ineligible the season before so the entire 2009 season may be vacated as well.

Feel free to compare violations involving benefits with Meyer and Saban.

He has condoned it before and this time the proof is there for everyone to see. The lies, deceit, and deception.

The only questions left is whether OSU will man up or whether the NCAA will.

Tressel is all class :rotflmao:

The cynic in me thinks the NCAA is laying the groundwork for a wrist slap on OSU given the lack of an institutional control or a failure to monitor charge. However, you have to read between the lines when it come to the NCAA infractions committee. They specifically mention OSU being considered a repeat violator in this case. I believe that deep down in the NCAA`s heart they know that Tressel informed Smith and the athletic department and they don`t believe the story as is. However, the last thing the NCAA wants to do is slap the LOIC charge on cash cow OSU which would result in a USC level sanction and cripple OSU. The repeat violator status does give them an excuse to pop OSU a little harder than some here are thinking imho. I could see the NCAA docking 15 to 18 schollies total, vacating all wins (a given), and giving a 1 year bowl ban. A LOIC charge based on a full athletic dept cover up would have been crippling had the NCAA pursued that route. My scenario represents a middle ground for the NCAA. They don`t have to look deeper at the cover up angle by Smith therefore having to charge OSU with a LOIC but at the same time hand out a serious penalty for lying. This penalty becomes even more understandable if OSU refuses to fire Tressel

I think the NCAA is laying the groundwork for OSU to get off easy if they and Tress part ways. Similer to UT bball.

Not a chance. Itll be Auburn by a mile. Why would anyone hate OSU and first year head coach Luke Fickel?

I guess you are assuming this isn't the first time covering something up. The class act may indeed be just an act.
