chris weidman won't win. i haven't been able to keep up with mma as much since im currently deployed. who the hell is he again?

only person who came close with chael patrick sonnen. he made a huge mistake with that spinning back fist, silly white guy. can't blame him for hyping it up.

He is a younger, bigger, faster version of Sonnen with better wrestling, much more power, better submissions, and tons better ground and pound.

Sonnen controlled Silva for about 6 out of 7 rounds.

Considering Weidman is even better at exactly what Sonnen did to Silva and light years better at ground and pound, there is exactly zero chance Silva survives the same scenario against Weidman.

Oh yeah, Weidman has vastly supperior submission skills than Sonnen.

If Silva has not improved his take down defense from when he fought Sonnen, he will lose and lose badly. Sonnen took him down with relative ease and Weidman is just as good or better at take downs and MUCH MUCH better once he gets an opponent on the ground. Sonnen was not powerful enough to do real damage in top control for extended periods against Anderson.

No one doubts that Weidman will end Silva if he has the type of top control throughout the fight that Sonnen did.

There are really only two ways Anderson has a chance in this fight:

1. Vastly improved take down defense

2. A knockout on the feet before he gets taken down too often and pounded into submission

If you are a Silva backer, you better hope for a strike to connect relatively early. Because as the fight goes on, Weidman will be outpointing Silva with takedowns and he is very good at maintaining control once he gets someone down.

Although I'd say these are important, when you get into the octagon with a legend, the best mma fighter of all time, I don't care who you are. There is an intimidation that Silva brings that scares opponents. He knows how to adapt so well to whoever he fights. He has many ways he can win. I remember going into the Silva Belfort match and thinking, "Belfort looks like the type of guy that might have what it takes to take down Silva. He's bigger and has the muscle to maybe take advantage of Silva on the ground." (much like Weidman) That match started and it wasn't even 20 seconds into the fight that I thought, "damn... Belfort already looks scared" It was a full minute and a half before the first kick was thrown by Belfort. Silva was just bouncing around, doing circles around Belfort, getting into his head. And then immediately, as soon as they start making contact, Silva just comes out of no where with the foot to the face and knocks the guy out. Game. Set. Match. Not even a 2 minutes gone.

What that told me is two things:

1. If you're fighting Silva, you better be prepared for anything and everything. Some of Silva's moves are so unexpected that you almost, as a fighter, have to worry more on what Silva can get you with and knock you out in one hit with, rather than focus on what you will do to Silva to beat him. It becomes a defense game more so than an attack game for his opponents.

2. If you show any weakness to him, he's gonna spot it and then exploit it. Silva saw a weakness in the way Belfort was defending himself early on, and took him out by it.

Now I'm not saying Belfort is Weidman, or Chael Sonnen who had his way with Silva the first match (even though he was on steroids), but Silva has fought fighters before whom resemble Weidman.

The thing that makes Silva so good, other than his insane physical skills, is the guy is a flat out genius/guru at fighting, mma, jajitzu. He can beat you in so many ways you'd never even think of. It's ridiculous. His knowledge of the sport is far beyond any other fighter.

And I will agree on if Weidman does takes Silva to the ground, I think it favors Weidman. But I would be really really interested to see that and what/how Silva would respond with. I think whatever Weidmon throws at Silva, Silva has seen it before, and will counter act it. And on the other hand, Weidman has fought a total of 9 mma fights, only 5 UFC. Silva has 38 or something. Like someone said earlier, I feel like Chris Weidman is on the fast track to success and isn't quite ready to beat someone like Silva.

But...

Weidman I will say like everyone else, poses the biggest threat to Silva and anything can happen in the ring. I just think Silva has the experience on his side, along with a fighting knowledge that most people are unaware of. Probably why he is the best in the world.

I don't think Oliveira wins the fight, but 1/6 odds is WAYYY too high for Edgar.

Weidman's wrestling is not as good as Sonnen and he also isn't bigger than Sonnen. I do agree he has better submissions and hands.

Yes. Those that oogle Weidman's skills do so watching him dismantle low tier competition. Go back and review who Sonnen bullied and controlled on his way to his title shot, and then watch Weidman's 30 second highlight of his UFC career. Crapping on Sonnen because he swung for a ridiculous backfist and because Jon Jones randomly decided to go for the kill early is the cool thing to do now, but don't kid yourselves. Weidman is skilled enough, like any skilled MMA fighter, to shock the world. Picking him with confidence seems a lot like you just wanna brag to your buddies and don't mind risking falling flat on your face.

This.I was very surprised that Chael was able to get him on his back in their 1st fight.Anderson is just a different species, almost, when it comes to the octagon.

Anderson seems focused on fighting Roy Jones, Dana seems focused on Anderson fighting Jon Jones.... This fight has upset written all over it.

Still taking Silva though

Oliveira is just too hot and cold. One fight he lands the nastiest submission you've ever seen, then next he gets stopped inside of a round

Edgar-Swanson
Siver-Oliveira
Would have made a lot more sense

GSP told me that Weidman is the guy to take out Silva and GSP is the greatest fighter in the history of the world, so I'm going to take his word for it.

Everyone gets a lucky punch now and again...that's why they call it a puncher's chance. I think Serra's ribs are still hurting from the rematch.
