quote:Some but we have seen countless running backs continue Sanders ran for 1491 yards at 30, Smith ran for 1203 yards at 32, Payton 1551 at 31, Martin 1697 at 31, Tomlinson 914 at 31, Taylor 1202 at 31, Watters 1242 at 31, Barber 1661 at 31, and Williams 1121 at 32 are some examples but majority do fall off after 30 but Gore could be one of these as well.
Gore is what 31 years old? I wouldn't bet 5-10 million dollars that he won't lose it in the next 2 years

Gore had a lot of carries in a brutal division over the last several years. I definitely wouldn't have given him 3 years.

Sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter that free agent RB Frank Gore has told people he will sign with the Eagles this week. So much for a depressed running back market. Just hours after exiled Eagle LeSean McCoy landed $16M in 2015 salary to play for the Bills, Gore gets a reported $7M in guarantees to replace him. It's a very pricey sum for a 32-year-old (in May) running back with 2,442 carries across 10 NFL seasons, but his no-nonsense downhill style and exceptional pass-protection skills appeal to Chip Kelly. Expect Gore, Darren Sproles and possibly Chris Polk to form something of a three-headed monster in Philly while the Carlos Hyde era is now officially underway in San Francisco.
Demarco Murray is gonna get a much bigger payday than I thought

True but could Gore be an outlier? We will never know and if he ends of on the Eagles they have a decent offensive line which could help him produce a couple more 1k seasons if he gets 250+ carries.
Posted on 3/8/15 at 4:12 pm to tduecen
Well that's my point, you're betting 7 guarenteed million that he will be an outlier
That's like giving Stevan Ridley a good bit of guarenteed money this season because of how Adrian Peterson played after he came back from ACL surgery in an exaggerated sense

32 year-old + both ACLs torn + a history of taking a pounding makes outlier status a tad more unlikely.
Bummed to see him leave SF but the odds of this being a terrible move by PHI are far greater than it being a good one. If this is how the Eagles are going to operate now that Kelly has personnel control, they're fricked.

I think Kelly is big dicking around Philly right now to show that he is really in control of the personnel after the earlier power struggle he had

Brandon Flowers staying with the Chargers 36 million

5.5 a year but 7 mil is guarenteed over the next two years

That isn't that bad honestly... If he comes in and produces 1200-1500 yards and they make the Super Bowl, then well worth it obviously even if the next year he only produces 900 the next year.

Well in that case they should just over pay for everybody since there is a chance for them to be wildly successful
I'm just saying it's a weird risk to take

Franklin to the chargers, reportedly

Well Denver took a risk with Manning coming off neck surgery, New Orleans took a risk with Brees after doctors warned them etc.... sometimes a risk pays off and we have seen players perform past their "due" date as well.
Gore could be a total bust or he could provide a couple years of a 4.0 YPC and be productive that is the point of FA we never know.

Gore doesn't fit that offense at all.

Gore will be 32 in May...no way I'd give him that deal, but the eagles organization being the retards as they are would.
Philly has been known to give some of the worst contracts (granted I know this isn't a very big contract money wise) in the 4 major sports so I am not shocked. They very rarely get the ROI that they put in
