However, you're likely to see more upsets when the 15-1 team gets the bid over the 9-7 team.

That might be true but it certainly isn't as big of an upset.

In a world where the tournament was even bigger (not saying I want this) I think it would be great for regular season conference winners to get an auto bid but I don't want conference tournaments to lose their value. I think the good compromise is conference tournaments that do alot to protect those top teams and I can agree that some don't do that well enough.

This is what every conference should do every year.

Not that anyone is wrong by referencing the crowds. They could be doing this for the teams that have to travel. These teams aren’t flying charter

They can't charter a bus? The tournament is in Boston where Harvard basically is. Yale is 2 hours away. Princeton is 4.5 hours away. Penn is 5 hours away.

I think the only teams that should get automatic bids are the regular season champs. They proved over the course of the season that they should be the rep. A 2-14 team should not be able to get in because they luck out and win 4 games in a knockout tournament (where they may not even have to play the best teams).

If teams all played the same schedule in conferences then sure, great idea. But they dont. Conference schedules are unbalanced majority of the time because of the large number of teams in each.

Just play in an empty arena. What an overreaction.

Or let people who want to run the risk actually attend the events..

I’m hoping to score some cheap tickets to the Caps over the next couple of weeks due to the overreaction to this thing. I just won’t be seeing my parents over the next month.

I agree.
College athletes should already be heavily monitored in terms of their health regardless of CV.
Just tell fans to stay at home and watch on TV. It sucks, but it keeps the virus from spreading without disrupting the postseason.

I have no faith the NCAA will follow this route. They will frick something up and move games around in a way that fricks over a team or two. I guarantee it.

One of the greatest parts of the tournaments are the upsets. I think we all know and understand that in a one game series the best team doesn't always win.

right, but you want the best team from every conference there

Why? Only a handful of teams have a legit shot at winning it all anyway. Does it really matter if a .500 ACC team is snubbed for a 25-win SoCon team? Neither has a real shot at winning the tournament. There's more excitement with the current format.

1-bid conferences shouldn’t have tournaments. Dumb not to send your best

Big West Conference
@BigWestSports
The Big West Conference has announced that the league's basketball tournaments will be played without spectators as a precaution for preventing the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

I mean sometimes the best team in league play also isn't the best team going into the tournament.

I am just very confused at to what they are trying to prevent by cancelling this tournament. People get sick all the time after public gatherings

Doesn't Spokane host a round this year? Washington is getting hit hard

Today, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee will announce a ban on gatherings and events of more than 250 people in virtually the entire Seattle metro area to try to stop the spread of the coronavirus, according to multiple reports.

It wasn't immediately clear how long the order would last or if it would extend to other parts of the state. Spokane was scheduled to host the first and second rounds of the 2020 NCAA men's basketball tournament on March 19 and March 21.
