Checking in...I'm so fricking ready. I don't even feel like there's pressure. The Cubs are set for several years to come.

Just saw the roster. Currently melting over Szczur. Ill get over it.

Go CUBS GO

Should I do an unbiased, general NLDS thread? Or a balls out, all out Cubs thread?

I hate to admit this. But I won't be watching a game until the World Series. I've honestly never recovered from 2003.

I love almora and cogs don't get me wrong but szczur has earned it on the field all season and to be left off the playoff roster is just baffling

I think you gotta put szczur in there. The offense struggled, need a good bat. Drop coughlan, keep Almora for defense.

Cogs was arguably the hero of Game 4. If we don't use our most useless player to make the Giants burn Romo, Contreras doesn't get the chance to pants Smith.

Coghlan hit well down the stretch. Plus he is LH and brings defensive versatility

In the playoffs, you dont want the guy that is getting on base at a 40% clip (Cogs) vs Szczur(.312)?

i do

Not to mention, Cog had an .850 OPS in Sept

Szczur had a .351 OPS in Sept. He was 4-28

Almora is our best defensive OF, and just on game 3 alone prob cemented his spot for the NLCS.

Now if you wanted to make an argument for La Stella, id listen. He's still prob more valuable then Matt.

I was just going to post, Szczur had a. 366 ops in his last 30 games. This isn't the best friends club. Almora covers twice as much OF ground and is just as good of a contact hitter.

people just remember a few big pinch hits & that is it

being a full health we have guys like Soler, Contreras and even David Ross coming off the bench first to pinch hit when they dont start.

Coghlan hasnt always hit the ball well, but he has the 2nd best OBP on the team outside of Fowler. That is a useful tool in a playoff series. Plus he hits LH and can play 2B in a pinch

I am as big a Szczur fan as anyone, and was just as bummed as anyone when he didnt make the NLDS roster, but seeing the play Almora made in the outfield, and the incredible one he nearly made in the right-center gap, I totally understand why he is in there, it is the right move. He covers a ton of ground and had a good September at the plate.

Feel bad for Szczur though that he likely won't make it again. He contributed a lot to the team all season, whether it was baserunning, timely hitting etc...It has to suck no doubt to have to be a spectator down the stretch.

Re: the right center gap, Vasgersian had a very weird way of describing it. He would go on and on about how Almora didn't make that play.

My thought is, that play couldn't be made. Holding it against Almora because he got close to it is asinine. There are places on the field that no one could get to. Outfield Jesus himself, Jason Heyward, couldn't have made that play. Vasgersian went on and on about how Almora was out there when that play happened and he just couldn't get to it and maybe Heyward could have. Malarkey!

Almora also went 8 for his last 24 with four extra base hits to end the regular season.
