I know the hysteria over CTE...but this isn't really anything new for kids and football.

Even in the 80's - Pop Warner football was under siege.

The mantra was you shouldn't hit with helmets until high school. So 14.

Playground football with no helmets...and therefore nobody lowering their head was the usual practice and fine with parents.

Honestly, with what we are learning about brain trauma and concussion now I don't think this is a bad idea. Football is a 19th century invention still being played in the 21st century. By the middle part of this century it will have waned in popularity due to this fact.

More concussions are caused by bike accidents than anything else, so maybe we should ban bikes until that age too.

Well, when I grew up, no kid wore a helmet.

Now you can't find a kid not wearing a helmet while riding their bike.

Bike helmets, like football helmets, are made to prevent skull fractures. So while it's good that they're wearing helmets, that won't necessarily prevent concussions from happening.

Absolutely asisine comment. Wow.

It was a brilliant comment. You are just not at the awareness level to understand it. Carry on.

ban no but i don't think it would be terrible for parents to take a seminar or something before they sign off on it. You could allow parents to waive out of the seminar if they wish but to do so should require a phone call with someone rather than just signing a piece of paper.

They could always play Sarcastaball wearing bras and using balloons instead of footballs.

They'd probably need some Butters' Creamy Goo to keep their energy levels up

As someone who once coached youth football, this isn't a bad idea at all. A good portion of coaches have no goddamn idea how to tackle properly and teach their kids the worst goddamn form.

The research and evidence shows that cte related to football doesn't really start until college football. Not enough hitting at a damaging speed in youth or even high school football

What's even gained by playing youth tackle football?

Nobody is banning football. They are making it safer for kids under 13. Your analogy works better with wearing a helmet, using training wheels or riding on grass can concrete.
But you chose a ridiculous strawman instead.

Kids that young also struggle to control their bodies.

There's no point in playing tackle football before 7th grade.

But that's just my opinion.
