the rest of the schedule determines how the teams should be classified 1-4.

If not, what's the point in having a conference championship? it's a farce.

I don't have a problem with OSU getting in, but I do have a problem with PSU getting left out if they win the conference championship. If that happens, then they need to either get rid of the conference championship entirely, or expand the playoff to include say five conference champions plus one wild card type team.

ETA: Ultimately I want a 6 team playoff with 5 conference champs, one wild card, top 2 ranked teams getting a bye.

I agree. Ohio sucks.

Ohio state on the other hand has a good argument.

At least let us play our conference championship game first.

Why? CCGs aren't everything.

It's ridiculous to think conference champions just just get in over everybody.

this is what should be done.

if you can't win your conference, you have no business playing for a natty. when you think about it, it just doesn't make sense.

Why not the top G5 champion/independent and the p5 champs?

well then what are you playing for? it's called CHAMPION for a reason. as in, if you're NOT the champion, you lost. you did not finish on top. you are not the winner.

That would be pretty cool, but then you still have the problem of a p5 team like OSU that is pretty clearly the best team in the conference but gets left out by either losing the conference championship game or else lose a fluky game like the PSU game this year. Now maybe the healthiest thing is to say screw you to teams like this year's OSU, but that's a hard position to take.

Well tell them to win the conference

I'm sorry but football is not basketball hockey or baseball there aren't 20 plus games.

Are you cool with Bama being out if they lose Saturday?

What's the point of playing non conference games?

that's the only fair thing to do if they want the system to have merit. doesn't matter if they are "better," they lost.

YES, 100%

it's about merit, not how good you have been in every other game but the one that matters the most

I would be. Because there are multiple examples of maybe the 2nd or 3rd best team being NC in past quarter century

Florida St (Notre Dame)
BYU (1985/86)
Nebraska (Penn St)
LSU (USC)
Alabama (LSU)

Seems like most teams would be much better suited to just not challenge themselves at all in non conference then in your fictional system
