So you're honestly saying that you would use a #1 overall pick on a QB that has:

A) Never taken a snap from under center
B) A weak arm
C) Been in a highly specialized system that doesn't require pre-snap reads

No I'd use the #1 pick on a QB that has the ability to read defenses, a quick release, accurate arm, and mobility. Andrew Luck doesn't take a ton of snaps under center.

This shows how stupid you are. Pretty much all of Oregon's passing offense is based off pre snap reads.

Yeah WRs always go #1 overall...so do undersized DEs.

DEs and WRs never go #1 because of everyone obsession with using the #1 pick for a QB.

The bust rate for QBs (RBs too) taken in the first round is fairly high.

WRs ,DEs, and DT taken in the first round have a fairly high success rate. They usually end up as solid starters. Value-wise, it rarely make sense to draft a QB #1 considering history.

QBs that start in the NFL come from all over the draft board.

What about those taken #1 overall?

No way I take any QB who runs that type of offense in the 1st round, let alone #1 overall.

That's just about all he did at Stanford.

Oh cool. We're still talking about his offense 4 years ago. He takes very few snaps under center now in the pros.

And he led the league in passing. But yeah, gotta take snaps under center to be good.

There isn't a QB in this draft that should be the #1 pick in the draft.

And a lot of people would take Winston over Mariotta. It's not like 1 has the clear edge over the other.

But I would take Leonard Williams, Randy Gregory, Amari Cooper, and Ronnie Stanley ahead of the QBs. But considering it's such a QB driven league, Winston and Mariotta will both go top 5 and most likely 1 will be the top pick.

I'm not an Oregon fan, I was pulling for OSU tonight because of my cousins.. But what did Mariotta do wrong? Was it his fault receivers dropped passes on third down? Was it his fault receivers had balls hit their chests and turn into interceptions? Was it his fault ball carriers fumbled the ball away in the red zone?

He will easily be #1 overall. He'll be a perennial pro bowler. Bad game tonight does not show off his talents, but he's easily the best prospect coming out.

He is the same body type as RG3 and JFF

that doesn't suit the NFL well for a QB

6'4 220 is the same as RG3 and Johnny football?

I've run into both of them out here. Neither is close to 6'4. I didn't have a scale on them though.

None of this happened to Oregon.

Where did I say anything about Mariotta doing something bad tonight? Nowhere.

In fact, in your 1st post in this thread you said Mariotta had a bad game. I thought he was fine tonight.

And I'm not basing what I said off of just tonight. I think Mariotta has the tools to be a good NFL QB. Elite? No, and nobody has said he's an elite QB prospect. People like him a lot, but he's not an elite prospect. And I just don't think he should be a #1 pick. And I feel the same way about Winston. I do think Winston goes ahead of Mariotta though. Especially considering Tampa Bay has the #1 pick and Winston played at FSU.

He had a bad game by their standards, but he'll still be the top pick. Winston has way too many character question marks (still will be a good NFL QB), but you can't put your job on the line for Jameis Winston if you're a GM with the top pick.

JG, there is no way on God's green earth that Mariota comes close to a Pro Bowl in 3 years. He may not be starting for a team in 3 years. Hell, he may not be in the NFL in 3 years. He is a great college football qb in a gimmick style offense. His style of play will not translate well in the NFL. I do not care what his measurables are.

He will do as well as the other Island QB Timmy Chang did in the NFL
