Whats everyone's take on St.Aug and Shaw going down to 4-A? Ive read they are fighting to play up to keep league together. Anyone feel Lousiana should go down to 4 classifications instead of 5?

Im wondering if a taking a classification out helps the player in recruiting being he may play better competition week and week out and through the playoffs.

If you wanted to play the best then you need to move Curtis back up..JC being in 2A is a joke.

~Edit: Also..Parkview should be able to play 5A baseball since they usually run deep/win state in 3A. They beat Catholic and other 5A's.

I'm all for 4 classes. A strong 3 a can have Curtis, evangel, notre dame, calvery , parkview and redemptorist.

I really believe it makes competition better. Especially helps college coaches seeing kids playing better competition

So we should formulate the entire high school classification system to help out the 1 percent that go on to play college football?

No not at all. Im only looking at it from a recruiting aspect in regards to the individual player. Earlier poster had something about the kid from Oberlin. I feel that question would be moot if 1-A was played at a higher level. Its a recruiting board, so i was trying to make it a convo based on that.

However, Im very much pro 4-A being the highest classification. My question to you is should it be designed to punish two private schools who want to truly play up?

No, no and no... As it is 5A has the largest gap between teams, with schools with 1100 kids playing schools with 2300+ kids, how is that fair? The best solution is to have some kind of classification with all schools grouped with similar enrallments, then a highest classification that is for those schools that focus on football like Curtis, Evangel, etc...

as for the Catholic league, I like tradition and wish they could stay together, and so no reason why teams shouldn't be able to play up

I would think Shaw and St. Aug would be happy to be in 4A. Not exactly sure what their enrollments are, but I'm pretty sure it's a little over 500 students. Regardless of how well coached, or how talented you are, it's tough to compete at the 5A level week in and week out, especially come playoff time. Of course there are exceptions like Curtis, and Evangel, but for legitimate schools, it's tough.

I wouldn't mind having schools allowed to play up, but they need to play up in all sports.

Former catholic school league player and grad. Seems like all of the catholic schools were for reuniting, so hard to believe that the LHSAA will not allow it. But, I guess they are more concerned with state audits and how much money their former exec wasted as opposed to helping schools attain what they desire.

The LHSAA comish hates private schools. He could give two fricks about the Catholic league.

Teams should be able to play up to whatever class they want.

Also, enrollment is a poor indicator or athletic prowess. It's the only way, but doesn't really work.

And yes, the LHSAA hates private schools.

Redemtorist is not going to be all that tough once Hill and Collins are gone. They'll still be solid, but not the team that they have been the last two years.

He goes. LOL if you will.

The classification system started out to play school of equal size against each other. back when large schools had 300 boys maybe!

For safety and fair competition. If they really want fair play and equal competition
they would classify schools by the size of the teams

40 less A
55 > AA
70> AAA
85 > AAAA
86 up AAAAA

adjust numbers as needed But JC can field teams over 100 players for the last 5 years I have seen.
RA and other school have about 60.

The argument is kids will be cut to play down. so what these kids won't letter anway.

This is one of the worst ideas I've ever heard. The system isn't broken except that teams who want to play up can't.

exactly

sounds like a private school should do more to increase enrollment if they want to play up in class

we are talking about HS kids. you should have seen the reactions when some of the Chalmations (i believe freshmen) got a taste of varsity action in the fourth quarter of a 48-0 game Friday night.
