most def. Miami needed a culture change when he got there. I really think if he had 2 more years things would have been way different. And I also think this has to get to Nick Saban, knowing he hasn't succeeded in the NFL while he's seeing what Harbaugh did the last few seasons, and now Pete Carroll. I really think he's gonna go back to the league at some point, if not this year. I think he wants to be talked about as the greatest coach of all time, not the best college coach of all time.

That little dude trying to intimidate Jr. Seau was great for "culture change." Fail.

He'd have to tweak his management style. He'd have to check his tazmanian devil routine at the door.

I guess. But to be honest, I'm not a Nick Saban fan at all, but I give him huge props for coming in and trying to lay it down like that. Even though it was a bad move in terms of managing your talent....but I think he's a guy that knows how to get respect from his players, no matter how he has to do it. That's why I think if he gets 3 or 4 years (which is very hard in this day and age in the NFL), but that's 4 years of draft picks and guys that grow up from being babies in his system. These are guys that he can talk down to and eventually build back up. Not perennial Pro-Bowler/future HOF'ers at the end of their careers of course. That shite won't fly.

again, I think that routine might work if he had more time to implement it and maybe sheered up the tactfulness of it a tad bit But on that same token, you have to know how to win immediately in the NFL, and his "my way or the high way" shite won't work in just 1 or 2 seasons.

Whoever wrote that needs some new tampons.

it sounds like he was just trying to get the Miami players to wear their helmets in practice. What an a-hole!!
And why the frick was Seau practicing in his bare feet? Are coaches supposed to be ok with this? Have any of yall ever played football for a coach that would let you get away with that shite?

He'd just have to chill the frick out. Belichick makes his authority felt but he's not Hitler. I had a boss like Saban once and nobody liked coming to work and everybody tuned him out eventually and it was amazing how productivity ramped up when he left.

Saban winning big at Bama isn't really that big of a deal. Bama has a strong tradition before he got there and just about every coach since the Bear has won 10 games at least once, including Dubose and Shula.

Yeah I agree. But I also don't think he's as terrible as some think he is. I'm sure there has to be more middle ground than some of these people (like the reporter in the OP for example) tend to put out there. There are a lot of people in this world that really respond and shine under a leader like Saban. But for every one of those, there are a few more that are super talented and might crawl in a hole once treated like that. If Saban could get 40-50 guys that do respond to that kind of discipline and thrive in that atmosphere, he could have one hell of a scary NFL team. And I think it's very plausible that he could have a roster full of these type of guys in 3-4 years.
ETA: and you do have guys like Trent Richardson and Greg McElroy that say they'd love to play for him in the league. So he can't be a total "hitler"

I don't either but NFL players have a different mentality than college players. Think of the coaches who have won Super Bowls that don't jump down peoples throat like Saban. You have to have patience and Saban is very short on that.

I don't think Tom Coughlin is all that far off from Saban. He probably hasn't jumped down his players throats to the extreme that we've "heard" of Saban doing. But there are some very successful coaches just as Nazi-ish as Saban.
And I reiterate, those types of coaches always start off that way to set the precedent, but with time it not only works but you have guys like Michael Strahan that totally hate them at first, then end up saying they love this guy more than any coach they've ever had.

YUP but he wins titles. So the rest doesn,t matter. If I am Bama I pay him to win titles ... NOT to be a nice guy.

8 years and you're still in counseling over the rejection. You should ask about drug therapy too.
