ESPN Article

quote:

Broadcasters of NFL regular-season games on TV saw their viewership drop an average of 8 percent for the 2016 season, according to data provided by the league, as the average game was watched by 1.4 million fewer people than last season (16.5 million vs. 17.9 million).

quote:

Primetime broadcasts were the most affected. ESPN's Monday Night Football (17 games) and NBC's Sunday Night Football (19 games), the two most costly rights deals, were down 12 and 10 percent, respectively, in total viewers.

Day time games on Fox and CBS, which both broadcast 27 games, were down 6 and 7 percent, respectively, in total viewers.

Thursday Night Football games were excluded from the comparison, provided by the league, because of a variety factors that made the comparison versus last year skewed, including streaming on Twitter and a new partner in NBC.

The product has become lame... the QB play after about ten of them falls drastically.... the league looks like arena football with a bigger field..... is oversaturated and the luster has worn off from the sport... I have it on just for the noise factor..... the playoffs will be decent. But the Raiders vs. the Texans will be a brutal watch......

End Thursday Night Football.

Improve the production quality of MNF.

Profit.

stop TNF, let players "play", let players have fun and show emotion, stop the pink shite in October (which they are, i know), stop with the arbitrary commissioner rulings, put the focus back on the "real" game, not the "fantasy" shite...

there... it's fixed... you're welcome, NFL

Agree with both of those.

Additionally, they need to make more games available on Sunday. I'm fortunate to have access to all of the games, but some of these matchups you're stuck with on Fox and CBS are terrible.

The product sucks. It's slow, filled with unimaginative play calling, and over paid players who don't give a shite. Outside of Saints games I don't think I watched a full quarter of another NFL game.

While I watched slightly more than a quarter, I think plenty of viewers echo your viewing pattern. the Saints game is over, I just check my phone for scores and fantasy updates. I don't care about watching the actual games at that point.

You can not Flex Monday games, very hard for hotels and etc

Thursday games should either come after a bye making them divisional games or be dropped all together unless Thanksgiving.

i can't stand the way they officiate defenses now. Can't do shite, not only you can't do shite but defenders must go out of their way to turn their heads when they have perfect defensive coverage on a WR just because the WR feels like he should be able to go through a defender w/ position to get to a ball. its all bullshite.

this will probably be me in a few more years. I still tuned into to other games sometimes at home but if I was at a bar the MNF game or the SNF game couldn't hold my attention as much. Thursday night games.. frick no. I only watched the Saints-Panthers all the way through this year in that time slot.

watching live games is basically all I do now (and like I said some of them can't measure up like before).

No extra viewership for pregame/postgame thoughts from the major networks for me. I don't care what any of them have to say anymore.

What if you flex them a few weeks ahead of time? I'm sure it could be done

this is a biggie, we're the past the point now of "its football, so they'll watch it and like it" now. They need to update the way they do tv for an audience that's changed.

There's no reason a large % of your audience is stuck watching the Bills and Jets play a shittastic game because of some archaic rule of how you do tv, while an actual entertaining game is going on at the same time.

I don't like how officials affect the outcome of games. I looked at it earlier in the season, and average margin of victory was at an all time low. I want to say only 5 of 32 teams had a MOV greater than a touchdown. I truly believe they are being told to keep it close if possible.
