That hit wouldn't have been legal on anyone. A helmet hitting another head with enough force to break a jaw is not secondary contact. It is unnecessarily rough, and should be flagged every time.

But after the Huber shite, they are going to broaden the rule to essentially say whenever the punter gets blown the frick up, it's a flag and illegal.

They don't need to broaden the rule, he already broke said rule.

I don't understand why you people are trying to defend THIS hit.

I agree the game is getting nerfed by these bullshite penalties, but this was a tPOS hit that was high and may cost Huber his living. Who knows how he returns from that hit.

There are so many other hits out there that are targeting or late that are so much more egregiously called illegal that this one getting all your panties twisted in knots is pretty dumb.

It was an illegal hit, move on.

Garvin is getting fined for the punter having a glass jaw.

again, it's a bad rule that is only going to get more punters hurt

You can't go low on a change of possession either. I don't know why you keep saying this.

that hit is 100% legal on non-QBs who are not "defenseless"

it is not a spear or launch

the NFL has created a perverse incentive by ruling all punters are "defenseless", which makes that hit violate the rule

without being "defenseless" (or a QB, who can't have anything touch his helmet), the hit is 100% legal

where did i say anything about going low?

if the steeler had just planted his shoulder in the hip of that punter, he'd be in ICU right now facing possibly life-threatening issues. pick your poison

You can't hit the hip with a shoulder without leading with the helmet.

That would also be illegal.

no you can't hit someone in the head like that. Just can't. Feel free to argue til you're blue in the face. You know everything, the officials are all wrong. Blah blah blah.

The one where you're full of shite because hits like that rarely happen? No, I got it.

pretty sure this hit was illegal only b/c he was hit in the neck

if your helmet can't impact the body then you can't do anything to him. a form tackle "looking up" leads to helmet contact

Maybe you could block with your arms?

This isn't a tackle, it's a block.

they do happen, over and over

the impact is not the same because the person receiving the impact is acting like a football player

pretty much every tackle on a RB on a running play will have shoulder/helmet impact

i consider the shoulder similarly, especially how smaller players have to use them against bigger ones (obviously not applicable here, but the rules should be generally applies)

A 6'3 LB is gonna hit a 6'0 punter on his hip without his head down?

He would have to be on his knees.

Just follow the damn rule, and block the punter with your arms and hands and take him out of the play.

Not that difficult.

I do agree to some extent here. If this same play was done by a 5'10 DB he wouldn't have been fined. (but he wouldn't have broken his jaw either because he wouldn't have hit his chin with his helmet)

how will WRs ever be able to effectively block LBs with this rule? it would completely take them out of the running game
