re: New Lakers squad eerily familiar to Malone and Payton

Plus you had Kobe missing games because of the rape case. Kobe and Shaq fighting with each other. Shaq wanting a contract extension. Shaq missing 15 games. There was just a lot of turmoil going on that had nothing to do with talent and ability.
I agree with that
If Shaq had been interested in keeping in shape and Kobe were willing to accept his #2 role that team could have won another 3 titles IMO

Remember also that the 2004 team made it to the NBA finals and lost to a Detroit Piston's team that went to 6 straight Eastern conference finals. Not like they lost to the 2012 Bobcats. It isn't exactly a failure of a season.

I felt like Kobe kinda shot them outta that series. Shaq took 84 shots in the series. Kobe took 113, most with Tayshaun draped on him. if they coulda found a way to ride Shaq most of the way and then let Kobe finish, I thought they'd have stood a better chance. and yes, I realize the Pistons D was on another level, but Shaq probably needed more touches.

Well considering Kobe shot 38% from the field and Shaq 63% from the field I think you have a defensible opinion.

The Lakers chemistry was just lousy at the point IMO. Kobe was jealous of Shaq being the #1. Shaq was pissed the Lakers wouldn't roll over and give him another megadeal. The Lakers ownership was sick of Shaq being hurt and out of shape from sheer laziness

According to Tex Winter, Shaq played like shite
quote:
"Shaq defeated himself against Detroit. He played way too passively. He had one big game. Outside of that he didn't do much. His boxing out and rebounding in the series was awful. He had one assist in one of the Finals games. He's always been interested in being a scorer, but he hasn't had nearly enough concentration on defense and rebounding."

by his standards I guess you could argue his rebounding was bad - even tho he averaged 10.8
I think mostly his attitude just sucked. Both he and Kobe became more interested in their own egos than they were in winning a title

Nash won't be trapped in a system he doesn't fit in like Payton in the triangle
I'm not a mastermind of Mike Browns coaching but I'm pretty sure he likes to slow things down, play half court, and play defense..
Nash has been a fast pace, fast break, not play defense kind of guy his whole career amirite?

If they trade for Howard both Bynum and Gasol will probably be gone.
And how's that?
I haven't heard a single instance of a rumor involving both Bynum and Gasol.

Nash signed with the expectation of playing with Gasol...
And this thread is retarded.

The real question is whether or not that idiot mike brown can get out of his own way.

Well, one drastic difference is that Dwight is in his prime and a long term building block if he's really willing to re-sign. He'd be their future in the post-Kobe era
Dwight will never be as good as past prime Shaq was from 04-06

Mike Brown isn't qualified to be coaching this star-studded team. If I was Kobe I'd tell him to get lost.

And why is that? Ohhh brilliant fortune teller
Howard's camp has already been quoted as saying that if landed, he would be willing to resign in LA next year.
This deal wont happen immediately by any means, but Orlando is running out of time and options. Houston is out. Atlanta has minimal to offer and doesn't fit the direction the Magic are looking to go (no large contracts and youth).
Cleveland gets Bynum and Turkalu's contract.
Orlando gets two young talented players with draft picks, plus freedom of two large comtracts.
LA gets Dwight Howard.
Yes, Orlando is still weighing their little to no other options now, but this is about as good as it will get for them.
