I wonder how much backlash the Big10 will get for this from it's own fans.

Think it might get changed in the future?

It has too. Can you imagine commentators, "Well Jim lets take a look at who's leading the leaders division"

Seriously one of the worst thought out names ever.

I would hope so. I'm not even a fan of the Big Ten and it bothers me. Heck, everything bothers me. The fact that there's 12 teams now and it's still the Big Ten is irritating.

the SECW should become the red jaguars and the SECE should be the blue barracudas

How the frick does such a terrible idea make it past the "Hey I have an idea! How about we call them the Legends and Leaders" stage.

They need to get their money back from whichever branding company they hired.

The Leaders division will feature Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue and Wisconsin.

The Legends division will have Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska and Northwestern.

Apparently the Big10 doesn't find us to be a Legend.

I'm not one to often criticize stuff like this but what exactly was the point? The old Big 11 was at least mildly clever. What the hell is this? It gives no reference to the 12 teams and basically enforces the the "10" aspect.

I want to say it's an extra jab at those "You don't have 10 teams, change your name!!!" folk

The league announced it will call the divisions Legends and Leaders.

The Legends division will feature: Michigan, Michigan State, Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern and Nebraska, which becomes a full Big Ten member on July 1, 2011.

ESPN.com's Adam Rittenberg writes about all things Big Ten in his conference blog.

The Leaders division will feature: Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Purdue, Illinois and Indiana.

"Our foundation is our history and we wanted to honor it," commissioner Jim Delany said during the announcement on the Big Ten Network.

The Big Ten will award the Stagg-Paterno Championship Trophy to the winner of the new Big Ten football title game, which begins in 2011. The trophy honors former University of Chicago coach Amos Alonzo Stagg and current Penn State coach Joe Paterno.

The MVP of the championship game will receive the Grange-Griffin Trophy, which honors former Illinois great Red Grange and former Ohio State star Archie Griffin, the only two-time winner of the Heisman Trophy.

I get that, hell most everything I do is rooted in spite or revenge. But I just don't see the point in this.

Wow, this is like when C-USA had the Red White and Blue divisions. This is really poor. And, like the ACC, I will promptly forget who is in which division.

Im a Big Ten student at OSU and I am damned ashamed of my conference. EPIC fail. Legends and leaders is terrible and then to name trophy after a coach in the league for 17 years and active is a disgrace. Bo-Woody trophy, simple

i mean, if i tried to think of worse/more lame names for their divisions, i dont think i could..

ACC = Atlantic/Coastal
PAC12 = North/South
Big12 = North/South
SEC = East/West

B1GTEN = Legends and Leaders

I'm broke my own rule and logged in from work just to drop in and say these are the worst well-intentioned division names I could possibly imagine.

and I'm out
