He was from Indiana. His Dad was a coach and he followed him down here when his dad Terry helped coach EJ his junior and senior years.
His dream was always to play for Bob Knight and the Hoosiers. He bled Indiana red. That's why it was so hard on him when it all went down. He loved that school and loved Knight. When he was made into some kind of scapegoat it hurt him. I mean the dude lost his temper and choked a 19 year old kid and somehow this was Neil's fault.
Dude played hard all the time and played most of his soph year with a separated shoulder. Somehow he became the guy on the team that Knight always was hardest on. Never gave him a break.
R.I.P Neil.

...and yet his teammates voted him off the team?

It ain't no bullshite to mention Neil Reed and Randy Livingston in the same post when you're talking LA high school basketball. Neil Reed was legit.
My college roommate played with or against him in Europe. One of the two. Said that shite with Knight was really in his head, like he talked about it a lot.
RIP Neil Reed. You could shoot like a mfer.

Very sad for his family. 36 is too damn young. :(

It was Reed or Knight. As big as an intimidating presence as Knight was, what would you think would happen in a "team" vote?

I saw him play a couple of games at East Jeff high as well……he was fantastic…could drain it from anywhere…..I was at Mandeville High at the time…and I remember when Reid and East Jeff. Came to play @ Mandeville, Bobby Knight was in the stands that night…as a 17 y/o I thought that was a pretty big deal..Indiana was a pretty hot team back then…RIP Mr. Reid

man that sucks. Regardless to what happened at IU, sucks to see someone die so young and leave a wife and kids behind.

My cousin was his friend in high school. One of the best high school players I have ever seen. Dude was lights out behind the arc.

Damn. Maybe it's because there is a lot more reporting today, but it seems like cardiac arrest is becoming a lot more common under 40.

I went to EJ with him. We had the same P.E. class. Every now and then we would just shoot the basketball. Dude never missed. One of the most pure shooting strokes i've ever seen. RIP Neil.

Yeah went to school with him too. We used to hang out a lot. I remember being at his house and he had boxes of letters from schools and he'd never even read them because he knew he was going to IU. I kept telling him to go to Kentucky because he would've averaged 20 a game in that system. Lol.

I hope it doesn't have anything to do with taking workout supplements
