I don't think you realize how far Nebraska has fallen on a national scale. Also, in today's age of CFB. Oregon St. is the equivalent of Miss St in the SEC or Texas Tech in the Big 12

He's still not an upgrade over Pelini. He had Sean Mannion, Brandin Cooks, and Markus Wheaton late in his tenure, and still couldn't win consistently with them.

And is it in poor taste to make a Beaver girl reference?

I think the fanbase accepts 9 win seasons. But they want a submissive HC. Not a hothead.

They did not like that Bo won 9 games a year. Solich won 9 his first year, double digits the next three years, then had a bad year and they fired him before the bowl game when he won 9 the next season.

Nebraska is in the same breath as Notre Dame as an all-time program, they should not settle for a guy like Mike Riley IMO
Again USC and Bama both wanted Riley and he turned them down

LSU once wanted Steve Logan over Nick Saban

I know in some situations there is a threat of violence against a victim to keep them quiet, but I just don't see any situation where I wouldn't report a fricking rape.

Ok, but what does that have to do with Nebraska? USC has a poor record of hiring coaches since Carroll left and that's why they suck. For Bama, Saban isn't going anywhere.

Mike Riley is a decent coach, but he should be coaching at a program like Oregon State, he has no business being the head coach at Nebraska.

I call BS. Nebraska is still a national program with the alumni and fan support. They could be a perennial powerhouse again with the right coach.

Riley is a good coach. He owned Pete Carroll

Carroll went 5-2 against Riley. You have an interesting definition of "owning"

Recruiting is the biggest challenge out here. We need someone who can recruit.

Do you think it's the 29-33 record the last 5 years or the fact that he lost 4 or more games all 14 seasons at Oregon State that got him those job offers? I don't care where a coach is, nothing says mediocrity like his record; I feel like we are looking at the older version of Lane Kiffin.

I am pretty confident with his coaching abilities. The part I want to see with him is how he can recruit here in Nebraska.

I also like him better than Bo. Bo was a total fricking arsehole who was a decent coach but that was about it. He also polarized the Nebraska fan base.

Based on what? His career is defined by mediocrity, and it's been worse than mediocre the last half-decade. He reminds me of Kirk Ferentz, except even Ferentz has had a number of seasons with less than 4 losses. He may be nicer than Bo, but considering Nebraska's track record of firing coaches, Riley was a poor and baffling hire.

I get the sense that he is one of those coaches with with skills and knowledge that make him a great assistant/coordinator but a surprisingly underwhelming head coach.

I just really don't know what to expect this season. It could either be a total disaster or a surprise with them going to the Big 10 title game. And I'm not the only one here whose thinking that way. Even a good deal of the writers and radio guys are not sure.

Riley developed players but they never had a good OL. There aren't many out west and Stanford and SC eat em up. OL are usually smart and don't go to a school with average academics, a shitty town, with a burrito stadium, and every day looks like Halloween.
