On SportsCenter they just said he and his assistants were not receiving their bowl bonuses because the university did not support a 5-7 team going to a bowl.

Anyway just thought that was interesting. I can't really fault the school though for their decision.

shouldn't have accepted the bowl if they didn't want to pay the bonuses.

While I'll be the first to say NU fans should temper their expectations regarding Nebraska football, I don't blame them for a second not condoning a raise. I see no problem in disapproving of what 99% would consider below mediocrity.

eta: HOWEVER, if their contract says the staff is entitled to a raise, then I obviously feel like the staff should (has to honestly) receive raises.

Riley and co said they weren't taking them when they first invited. SC is just sensationalizing as usual

It's not a raise. It's the bonus for going to a bowl, a bowl they won.

There's a simple solution to this: what do their contracts say?

This is pretty simple really. If the coaches want to donate that money to charity, that is different. NU needs to pay up, though.

so football really is the tail that wags the dog... who accepted the bowl bid if the university leadership didn't support it?

You should always accept a bowl invite IMO. It makes your school look bad if you think you're too 'good' and it gives you 15 practices

What he said. Riley said early on that they weren't accepting any bonus pay from the bowls. Just ESPN trying to make a story out of nothing again.

I knew Nebraska had some unfortunate losses this season (BYU, Illinois, Wisconsin), but they looked deserving of a bowl last night. I was very impressed with the strength of their running game.

Freshman Ozigbo really impressed me as a consistent back.

They also aren't getting the $1.8 million payout that usually comes with going to that bowl...

That they get paid, if any of his coaches aren't retained you know they will get paid.

Minnesota's coaches accepted their bonuses.

Did they win a bowl game?

Is it in their contracts to get a bonus for winning a bowl game?

Pay the bonus.

They should give the bonuses to the tutors/athlete's academic support staff. It was the APR that got them into the bowl game, not the losing record.
