They ruled him ineligible and his representation is using a last ditched effort at an appeal. They claim they'll sue if he's denied again -- which he likely will be.

It's a heartwarming story and all, but the NCAA does sadly have to set some rules on unaccredited schools. These schools are like mills and recruit players and have them take made up courses.

I feel for the kid, but I understand the NCAA's position. I am not sure what they want the kid to do at this point though? Return back to high school? I guess the kid can go make some money in Europe.

How many of the kids from diploma mill schools aren't allowed to play at all? Michigan state has a guard that went to a school in Florida for a year that doesn't exist anymore.

Tacko's sat scores are good and is an engineering major, just let the kid play.

I agree, but I also think selective enforcement is at play.

I'm all about suggesting things that I know aren't feasible but why can't they just use common sense, look at his test scores, interview the kid in person. Does he "belong" in college in at least the same way other student athletes "belong"? Some of these athletes are kids brought over from other countries and are being passed around by adults trying to take advantage of them. The only stand the NCAA ever makes is against the kids.

And there is the obvious hypocrisy of sitting on their hands on the UNC academic scandal because they probably have no idea what to even do.

And this guy is an engineering major. It doesn't mean he can hack it, but if an accredited university is willing to give him a chance at a legitimately difficulty degree, then the NCAA should worry about important issues.

I read just yesterday that the NCAA says it can't investigate UNC for academic fraud, because they don't make determinations on the academics standards. UNC only can be investigated for impermissible benefits.

Guess it helps to be #1

Outside of the other things people have mentioned as ridiculous about this, it's ridiculous that you have guys like Diallo that are still waiting on a decision by the NCAA with the season starting for most teams this week. Anybody who even remotely follows college recruiting knows what guys are likely going to get that "harder look" from the NCAA months ago. So why, if NCAA Compliance, is going to target specific guys are they not making that a priority so they can get it done in a timely manner so these coaches and players can be prepared?

Which is ridiculous when you consider the academic fraud that led to Florida State sitting football players in the Music City Bowl several years back, the NCAA's investigations into fixed SAT scores with Rose, and Haskins show-cause at Minnesota over academic fraud.

Yeah it's a shame he'll never get to enroll in his class at UK

Why can't a situation like this be at worst a one semester issue. If the kid can hack it for a semester with a solid GPA then that puts most questions to bed. No different than one and dones skating by first semester to stay eligible then quit going to class.

An accredited University, with an entire team/department of indivduals whose job is to vet the academic credentials of each and every student, is willing to accept him and allow him to take engineering courses. Yet the NCAA, who can hardly figure out the oversight of the athletic aspects, is going to make this selective determination of an otherwise qualified indivdual?

If true, then this may be the biggest hypocritical stance taken by the NCAA yet.

Blatant Academic Fraud = Out of Our Jurisdiction; Essentially No punishment

College Admissions of Deserving Student = Within our jurisdiction; Severe punishment-He can't play
