So the outstanding HS guys would just go to Europe for a year then join the NBA. Unless the NBA changes the rules to make it 2 or 3 years out of HS to be eligible for the NBA Draft, nothing should change on the NCAA level.

IF you wanna go after HS then go.

If you want to go to college. Then you have to say for 2 years.

ITS NOT THAT HARD

that is the problem with one and done

these kids are taking total junk classes for a semester to stay eligible. by the second semester, it really does not matter if they fail out or not, because they likely have made decision on going pro

I would LOVE this. The one-and-done thing is a joke. Might as well be no college at all required. I think it will not only make the college game better, but you'll have more refined players out of the college ranks getting drafted into the NBA. I really hope this happens.

I dont think that decision is as easy for an 18 year old as it seems. Going to a completely different culture just for basketball? I think the most successful guy that took that route is Brandon Jennings and he didn't have many great things to say...

Jeremy Tyler was the other notable guy to go to Europe from HS instead of college, and he ended up quitting halfway through the season and going home. Eventually flamed out in the NBA.

He fears that top high school players may be seduced by visions of instant riches, fame and success in Spain, France, Italy, Greece or some other destination.

“I’ve gotten paid on time once this year,” Jennings said in an e-mail message. “They treat me like I’m a little kid. They don’t see me as a man. If you get on a good team, you might not play a lot. Some nights you’ll play a lot; some nights you won’t play at all. That’s just how it is.”

Jennings, a 6-foot-2 point guard who was regarded as the nation’s best high school player at his position a year ago, signed a $1.2 million deal in salary and endorsements to head to Europe in August instead of staying in the United States to play college basketball. Some analysts suggested that other elite players would follow the same path because of the rules requiring prospects to be a year removed from high school before becoming eligible for the N.B.A. draft.

The deal for Jennings allowed his mother and his half brother to live with him in Italy, and he said it still made economic sense. Yet he said he wanted others to know about his experience.

“I don’t see too many kids doing it,” his e-mail message said. “It’s tough man, I’ll tell you that. It can break you.”

There is one this year playing in China that will be a telling tale as well, Emmanuel Mudiay.

ETA: He made $1.2 Million and is going to be drafted in the top 5.

They are just trying to force the NBA change the eligibility rules

China was a better choice for Mudiay than Europe, simply because in China they actually pay you on time. Europe, they pay you when or if they feel like it.

There is no problem with one and dones. There are 300+ D1 basketball programs with 13 scholarship players. There may be 10-15 one and done players a year and those guys come from like 4 or 5 schools.

I'll take getting to see guys like Anthony Davis, Durant, Jabari, or Wiggins play one year of college basketball over any dumb rule that tried to keep that from happening.

You should see what I took during my first semester...

Yes it does because if they leave on poor standing the school will get fricked by the APR.

Adam Silver has said he's wanted to change it since the day he took over. The issue is the NBAPA is opposed to it.
