He's going to be a FA this spring and NBC Sports Network needs a franchise playa.

quote:

He may or may not be the “top ESPN name” discussed in December, but ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt has reportedly attracted the interest of NBC Sports Group.

NBC is prepared to go after ESPN anchor Scott Van Pelt when his contract expires in April, sources told the website The Big Lead. ESPN, according to the report, “is already bracing for the tug-of-war” (thebiglead.com, 1/12).

For his part, Van Pelt told the website that he has yet to talk to NBC.

The story comes just over a month after Advertising Age reported that “[a]t least one top ESPN name” was involved in competing negotiations with both ESPN and NBC Sports.

Whatever it is, it will most likely triple.

that would be a huge get for NBC

he's wildly popular and very knowledgeable is multiple sports. i wonder if he would still have a syndicated radio show with russillo, though not sure about his contract

It would greatly help but they're still a "premium" cable channel which airs too many niche sports.

You know, it pissed me off when NBC shortened the intro and changed the logo (to that one in the video) during its last two seasons. It's like they mailed it in because they knew they weren't going to outbid ESPN/ABC (also evident when they hired Pat Croce).

The only thing that would put NBC over the top would be stealing three of NFL/CFB/NBA/MLB.

Also, this reminds me of when Fox Sports landed Keith Olbermann when it was launching.

He'd be a huge loss for ESPN. I am not sure what he would do for NBCSN other than name recognition. I won't watch that netwwork until they get better live content I like (not hockey or tour de France).

Or Max Kellerman hitting the big time with his own deal and I Max. I don't think NBCSports will completely fail but I wouldn't want to be the 1st one on that ship.

Which is why it would make sense for him to leave. You look at ESPNs lineup and see him, and... "one of these things is not like the others, which one is different, do you know?"

If they have Dan Patrick and Scott Van Pelt then that would be nothing but positive for them.

put them over the top? On air talent helps, but at the end of the day no one gives a shite.

ESPN would keep on chugging. I'm sure they'd prefer not to lose SVP, but it sure wouldn't be any type of game changer.

No that's why he should bend ESPN over for plenty money.
