2 part question:

1.) What kind of salaries would top stars like Lebron,Curry,Durant, Davis get on the open market?

2.) Would it lead to more dispersion of superstar players?

Yeah same luxury tax system as mlb in terms of percentage you pay but obviously the threshold would be lower cause revenue is lower

I'd say around the $40M per year mark, maybe more

No, but it's pretty clear that the teams with more money to spend have been the ones to sign the majority of all star free agents in the past. Maybe not as much so over the last 3-5 years however

Yeah but in MLB pitchers can pitch the same amount of games and every hitter gets the chance to hit, in basketball you only have one ball and guys wanna hit the big shot, score the most for their legacies and for shoe deals

Most players don't hit FA until a decent chunk into their prime. A lot of smart teams are starting to understand not paying for past performance.

Is UncleBlazer serious that Anthony Davis isn't a "Star". Im not even a pelicans fan but davis is the real deal. If there was no salary cap it would be just like baseball the major market Lakers and Knicks much like the Dodgers and Yankees would just overpay everyone. The thing is having a dream team doesnt work in basketball bc you cant just put lebron, durant, davis, chris paul, and anthony davis on one team and think it would work. There's only one ball and there would be strife

why GSW impresses. W's win when K. Thompson has a big night. W's win when Green has a big night. Iguadala was the star last year until he was injured and then he played off the bench when he came back. Nice that he got MVP of the finals. He was the difference the first couple of weeks.

The best way to do that is the opposite, have a hard cap and no max salaries.

That and the next thing will obviously never happen but man I wish it would. Couple the 2 things at the top with no NBA draft, every player out of college is a free agent, it would be epic!!!

Everybody is gonna get overpaid. Guys like Batum and Derozan are gonna get maxed. Barnes, Fournier,Rondo are all gonna get close to 20 million per year.

Charlie Finley of the A's suggested this solution when the free agency suit was going through the courts: allow every player to be a free agent at the end of every season.
