Now that the eastern conference is overwhelmingly stacked, is there any dark horse team in the west who can match the Lakers?

The West is a jumbled mess after LA. This is their biggest threat.

LA is still the team to beat.

Portland, OKC, and Houston will be better than they were last year.

Denver and Dallas are still dangerous.

San Antonio, PHX, and Utah are on the decline IMO, though SA and Utah will still probably make the playoffs.

Sacramento and Memphis are interesting teams that will improve but will still be on the outside looking in.

Golden St and the Clippers are talented but they'll find ways to be shitty.

NO is a tough one. Paul is great but I can't see that team making the playoffs even in a weaker West.

Minnesota will still be shitty.

The west is definitely an ugly mess but I think it will be good for young teams like the Thunder, Blazers and Kings. Needless to say, the east is going to have some sick matchups.

Rockets.

Brooks
Martin
Ariza
Scola
Yao

Battier, Lowry, Hayes, Buddinger. That's a solid squad(if healthy)

Who?

Top heavy. Miami, Chicago, Orlando, Boston and Atlanta.

(I'm actually interested to see what D'antoni does with Amare and Randolph in NY. If they got a shooter, that could be a fun team to start watching in a few years. And they do have the money to spend now and could go after Melo next year.)

So the West loses 2 players (amare and boozer), and now the whole conference is a ugly mess?

I guess so. No more than last year really. Substitute Cavs for Miami, and you have the same teams at the top. Nothing that different this year.

Chicago and Milwaukee got better, and I think Charlotte will have a better record this season. ATL is still solid.
