NBA ROY - Lillard - Why doesn't he get much hype?

I'm sure NBA fans realize how good he has been this year and have appropriate respect for his game, but it seems as if he gets very little media attention or hype. I suspect he is mostly unknown to casual observers of the NBA.

Is it simply due to the market he is in and the fact that he wasn't a huge name in college?

This is the God's honest truth...I had never heard of the guy in any form until he won that award. Blame the NBA I guess...I can name a lot of NBA players, many of them for the wrong reasons. It is all about who the "chosen ones" are with the league and ESPN.

Is this a joke? He got a lot of hype during the season. ESPN played his highlights a lot.

He really is. Damn good player. I really wanted him in the draft.

However, his efficiency numbers aren't that good. He dominates the ball and scores a lot, but not efficiently.

And he was older than most other prospects coming into the league. I think he's nearing his ceiling already.

Drummond and Davis, and possibly Waiters have much higher ceilings and I think will be better.

Not at all.

I must have just missed it. I don't recall hearing any radio personalities discuss it or any threads on here talking about him. Given his numbers, it seems like very little hype.

Maybe I was just absent.

He's a really good player for a rookie, but this rookie class was weak and he was on a poor team. So he's not going to get a lot of attention.

It was known he was going to be ROY from about the halfway point of the season. ESPN Radio didn't talk much about him because his team isn't a contender and he's not either a Superstar or Tebow.

But his highlights were shown after almost every game on SportsCenter. I saw them a lot for sure.

Personally, I think his stats are skewed, but he is a very good player.

Which usually would create and increase the hype.

Seems similar to Steph Curry's rookie year, except Curry got more attention and didn't win ROY.

Probably. I was just trying to bring the kid some attention because it felt like me he didn't get much.
