I'm not saying Harper is better but you can't accumulate WAR if you're not playing.
5 seasons /=/ 5 seasons
Harper will be paid based on his potential not his WAR

Jason Heyward has been worth 22.7 fWAR over the last five years, hit free agency at age 26 (same age as Harper in 2018) and he ended up only getting a $184 million contract.
I know a lot smarter people than me put those stats together, but Heyward is just nowhere near the player of Harper and Trout IMO.
Obviously he has that D but his bat (since getting hit I guess) isn't at a superstar level.

Then consider he missed 106 games combined in his 20/21yr seasons.
That's exactly why he shouldn't get 400 million. If his body can't hold up in his early 20s, what's it gonna be like in his early 30s?

Exactly

He won't get that if he produces like last year. He needs another great 10+ WAR

NO player is worth $40 million a year. None. In no sport.

LeBron James is easily worth that and more to the Cavs and if the NBA didn't have a salary cap, I imagine he would blow by that. Mike Trout would easily fetch $40+ plus on the open market, especially if he signed a short term contract.

he's averaged 150 games played the last 2 years. He only averaged 119 the first 3. He's gonna get paid. His injuries were sustained from playing hard, more so than just being injury prone. He has learned to scale back a little. Though he played through some injuries last year

Any player is worth whatever he can get paid. If you can afford a player like the Yankees can then why not overspend a little?

Cause that's not how they did things when PEEJ was just a little baw

nobody will pay Harper anything near $40 mil. He might as well shoot high though.
