Of this season thus far

I'm most impressed with Ryan Blarney and Chase Elliot. A Dillon has had a good solid season minus the shite that happened last weekend

SPRINT SHOWDOWN
Date: May 20
Time: 7:15 PM ET
Length: 75 miles
Defending champ: Greg Biffle
TV: FS1

SPRINT ALL-STAR RACE
Date: May 21
Time: 7:00 PM ET
Length: 170 miles
Defending champ: Denny Hamlin
TV: FS1

Thoughts so far...

I'm encouraged that the sport is bringing guys like them into the mix. There is a lot of older talent that is hard to replace.

I understand that the All Star format is different this year, but like most things NASCAR, the "huge changes" are usually difficult to discern unless one is really embedded in the rules, etc.

Summary?

There are three segments in this year's Sprint All-Star Race -- a 50-lap opening segment, a 50-lap second segment and a 13-lap final dash to the finish with a unique rule.

For the first time in the event's history, the starting order for the final segment will be determined following a random draw that decides if the top running nine, 10 or 11 cars have to pit for a mandatory four-tire stop between Segment 2 and Segment 3. Pit road will be closed for all other cars, and those for which pit stops were mandated must resume position for the final sprint, lining up behind the cars that did not pit -- creating an unpredictable, no-holds-barred rush to the checkered flag and All-Star history.

Hmmm.

It sounds interesting, but it also pushes NASCAR closer and closer to being Rollerball

What is wrong with Rollerball? James Caan was good in that movie.

Awesome movie.

"Jonathan! Jonathon!"

Just don't want it for NASCAR.

I like changes. The double file restart was one of the best ever. But forcing pit stops on some but not others just to create havoc doesn't seem great to me.

Do the fastest cars have to start at the back or did I hear that wrong?

I used to love this race. Special paint schemes and checkers or wreckers finishes.

Like everything over the last 10 years, NASCAR has tried to make it more "showtime" appealing rather than just flat out hard, winner take all racing.

Flip the field, fan vote mulligans, WTF?

Just drop the damn flag and get out of the way and let the boys on the track decide who wins.

I agree with you but this goes back further than the past 10 years. I vividly remember Davey Allison getting hosed back in '92 (maybe '93). He easily had the best car, field got inverted and I want to say Rusty won. Either way, NASCAR still beats the hell out of almost everything else

93, Earnhardt won.

Davey won 92 & 93. He crashed with Petty at the finish of 92 and had to be air lifted to the hospital.

2 great things happen this weekend Wildcat

1. We can't fall farther behind in points.

2. It is night racing.
