Also, I didn't realize until earlier this week that AN is closed from Late May - October every year. Not to mention it's closed for a while before the tournament.

My uncle played there. He knew a friend of a friend. He got to stay in Eisenhower's Cabin. He has pictures that he has showed me in the past

Well, courses like Pebble Beach are several hundred, so I'd put it in the ball park of those courses.

$1500 just to have the same frustrating round but in a nicer place? Nah

I probably wouldn't break 150 at augusta in tourney conditions, but it's not about the score. It's about a once in a lifetime experience you'll have forever. People drop well over $1500 all the time to go to the super bowl, or a national championship, or a european vacation, or whatever. You wouldn't be doing it to try to shoot a certain score you'd be doing to have a truly incredible experience that you'd remember all the way to your deathbed. I peresonally wouldn't spend that much because I don't think it's worth it, but if you enjoy golf then why not ?

Let's just say if we have to ask, we can't afford it

I think the number would be much higher if you only offered the deal to me vs opening it up to the public and crowding the course

absolutely, I know this isn't exactly like the OP but in my head I imagined a scenario where it was a one time hypothetical thing where somehow someway they gave me and only me the option to pay to play it.

There are tons of other famous courses that are open to the public, so in that case the allure wouldn't be as much. Hell San Diego residents can play torrey pines anytime for like $100. Not nearly the same thing. If AN was simply open to the public, obviously people wouldn't pay as much as in this other scenario.

I just compare the two, for they are both renowned courses.
If you can play Pebble for a few hundred, what would drive you to pay that much more for ANGC? Augusta is certainly historic and nice, but IMO Pebble is way more scenic with the ocean holes.
Forget that it is private and all and PB is public, your queation is about how much I'd pay.
It would seem dumb to be willing to pay $1000 for ANGC ahen you can pay $300 for PB or even TPC Sawgrass.

Well it wasn't my quesiton, just chiming in. But no you can't just "forget" that AN isn't public, I mean that's the very basis of the question. That's the entire allure of the question, in addition to the fact that it's the most famous and notable golf course in the country if not the world. Teh fact that it is SO exclusive and off-limits to John Q. Everyman is what makes this even a question in the first place. If it was open to the public like pebble beach is the thread would have never even been started.

Well, my uncles played the course for a $20,000 donation to a member's charity . So, I guess %10 of that? $2,000?

if they had a lottery and chose a 100 people to play in 1 day, i'd pay $500 ... might go to $750 ... it's $500 to play pb, but you have to rent a room for $500 a night to guarantee a spot ... it's $300 to play several public courses from ireland/scotland ranked in the top 20, and rcd is currently ranked #1 ... $750 for augusta, cypress, shinnecock ... might go $1000 to play pine valley, tho ...

People on this very website spend thousands of dollars, EVERY YEAR, for their entire LIFE, to watch 18-21 year olds play a game of moving a pigskin across a line in teh grass. But yeah, it's "just golf" I guess.

My dad played it twice 15-20 years ago through some connections and buddy of mine got to go out there and play about 5 years ago.

I'd probably pay 5 grand or so to play it.
